Power Out

Post by knightrider » Mon Jan 09, 2012 9:12 pm

Hello all, I live in the country and my power goes out alot. I was wanting to buy an ups unit so my machine would work while the power was out, but then realized the battery on those units only last a little while and you need to replace the unit after a year or so. My next option was to buy a deep cycle battery and all the attachments to make it work but this idea is crazy unless your going camping, so that idea was out. I realized all I need is a unit that would wake me up if the power goes out so that I can take my mask off and not die while trying to sleep. I bought a Power Out! Made by Reliance they sell it on Amazon for 10 bucks. When the power goes off it sounds an alarm about as loud as an alarm clock and has a led flashlight that flashes. Perfect for me to wake up and take the mask off, it also doubles as a flashlight for up to 6 hours off of the built in rechargable battery. Hope this helps some because buying a ups unit is expensive and the battery method is crazy unless your camping.

Yep, I bought one last year after I slept through an outage. It was ugly.
I also found an old radio that doesn't have to be turned on again after an outage so I'll know when the power comes back on and can mask up.

Well, I live in town and we had 3 power outages last night. So it's not all falling branches. Sometimes it's drunk drivers trying to exist in the same space-time as a telephone pole.

Fortunately the house is replete with computer UPSs 'cause people at work trash them rather than putting new batteries in them. I'm off to the battery vendor today to pick up a deep cycle battery and and box to wire into one of the UPSs. That will power the CPAP machine. No more getting up to turn off the humidifier to conserve battery power.

Oh yeah, I plan to do great bodily violence to the annoying little annunciator that makes an irritating "beep - - - beep" sound.
