Prescription says VPAP Adapt what is Respironics equivalent?

Post by choich » Thu Jan 05, 2012 8:48 pm

I found a used Respironics Auto/SV Advanced but there are so many variants... Trying to save money but I don't want to buy something I can't use. I have central sleep apnea and was tested and successfully treated on a Resmed VPAP Adapt SV.
I'd rather be supercharged than turbocharged!

If you wish to post the price and the age of machine (Legacy or SystemOne) and the hours on the machine...I'm sure you'll get some comments. The Respironics should do the job, but whether it's really a good deal or not is a whole different issue.

A Respironics BiPAP AutoSV Advanced (which sounds as if that's what's being sold) should look like the following image:

Image

New they cost over $5,000. Currently they (sold new/not used, but there are newer versions) they cost over $3,500. Sold used they should not cost over $700. And I would expect that under $500 is more likely.

These are just as capable as the Resmed VPAP Adapt SV units. They can be configured to run exactly the same way as the Resmed unit. However, it tends to be a bit easier to adjust to the Respironics unit that it is to adjust to the Resmed unit. If you already have the Resmed unit, you will have no problem with the Respironics unit. If you don't have the Resmed unit, you should be able to setup the Respironics unit and use it instead.

Hope that helps.

John,

Thanks for the info. The techs at my sleep lab weren't sure. It would be nice if there were a table that showed equivalent devices from different manufacturers. It appears both the Resmed and the Respironics have been updated. Not sure what the new versions are.

I found the Respironics with humidifier at 2nd wind for $925 with a 6 mo warranty. Wanted to make sure it would do the job before I close the deal.

Blessings!

Choich,
The latest model would be the PR SystemOne BiPap auto servo ventilator Advanced. Being newer of course it would be more costly.

Secondwindcpap is a good company. I've done business with them. If you weren't concerned about warranty, you could probably find a BiPap ASV like the one in John's picture for less. I recently saw one on Craigslist for $300 and several months ago I purchased a zero hour BiPap ASV for $450. Just so you have some idea what you can do if you really shop around.

I believe the current generation Philips Respironics Series One machine will provide a lot more data, and will be much easier to access the data from.

The older model should deliver roughly equivalent therapy if the settings are the same.

Jamiswolf,

I missed the $275 Craigslist one in Albuquerque by a day or two... I'm running out of time. Every day I feel more and more brain dead. Using a System one Bi-PAP set in Auto CPAP mode as a band-aid until I get an ASV. I'll see if Bandnuts or Nineset are still looking to sell. This site should have a bulletin board for used equipment. Probably have some liability issues though.

Choich,
One idea since you're really needing a machine asap. There are plenty of S7 VPAP adapt SVs out there for pretty cheap. Data capability would be a hassle, but you would be able to set it up like your PSG machine and get going. Then, later you could search for a good deal on a newer machine and use the S7 VPAP adapt as a back-up machine. Just a thought.

And I didn't mean to turn you off to the secondwindcpap machine. That would get you going right now...plus a guarantee. He asks fair prices. It could take you a month of no treatment to save $400 or $500 and only you can decide if it's worth it.
