Good price for Swift FX used 2 nights?
Good price for Swift FX used 2 nights?
I thought this Swift FX was going to be perfect and I actually thought it was the first night ...until I read the data the next day.....many many leaks. I didn't sleep much the 2nd night trying to monitor leaks and if I had to too tight it hurt my nostrils and leaked worse...a bit looser and it slid right off my head. I would fall asleep and be reaching for it...must have a slippery head.
Anyway, I can't wait to use my good old Mirage Softgel tonight. Except for having to roll up the bottom of the head gear it does really do the trick.
Soooo, I am going to sell the FX and am wondering what a good price is for something used twice and only the one set of pillows used? I will sell it on Craigslist I guess because I am in Canada.
Thanks for any help

I would hang onto it Ella. I go back and forth between my FX and LT. One will be perfect for a week and then the other one is perfect. Have you tried velcro on the back strap. I didn't sew it. I just put a staple at each end to try it and it worked so well I never sewed it. The Fx fits looser than you would think.

Re: Good price for Swift FX used 2 nights?
Hi Liz, I remembered about the velcro finally tonight when I was putting my softgel together and found I had some stick-on ones and am trying that out tonight on my softgel. (It rides up but the FX just slid right off).
I think I might not be the pillow type. I had tried it in 2006 and got sores and now that I feel it sore in the same spot I remember that I had a hard time getting a proper fit because my nostrils are so slanted. They are a weird shape so none of the pillows were just right. To compensate the funny shape I had to have the pillows in too far and it rubbed on a more sensitive area.
Anyway, the softgel has been fine so I may just stick with it. I was really wanting the FX to work because it was so simple. But, again my anatomy (flat, fat head) didn't seem to be right.
Someone should start a business of creating molds of our heads and building custom masks.
Hope you are catching up from your overnight papa monitoring.

Re: Good price for Swift FX used 2 nights?
I second "hanging on to it" if it's not a financial burden to do so. I went through 11 appliances in 8 months - try one twice and toss it aside. My favorite nasal mask is one I tossed aside early because "it didn't cost enough" to seem good. Yep, my best nasal mask is the cheapest one I've seen ($42). I rotate between it and 2 nasal pillows masks. I'm impatient and afraid I rendered harsh judgment on them before I really knew how to adjust them well. The only three masks I'm glad I discarded were all FFM's.
We're all different and have different heads, faces and noses. I like the Swift LT best among the pillows type because it's more adjustable than most in that you can swivel the pillows upward or downward to better match the pitch of your nares. I get similar AHI's with either but my very best leak rate is obtained using the Acclaim by F&P. Just remember, what you don't like at first you may love later when you have more experience with it. JMO and good luck.

If you are absolutely sure you never want to try the Swift FX again..and it sounds like your mind is made up, then send me a PM (or post $ here) with what you would like to receive in payment for the mask. My step sister wants to try a nasal pillow mask and I was going to let her have one of mine.

Morning Elle
Have you thought of swapping it for the mask that you want? We tend to do alot of that around here. I've swapped a Resmed LT and Optilife for 2 Comfortgel nasal masks, and an Ultra Mirage for a Hybrid. I still have one of the Comfortgel Original Nasal masks size medium, that I would trade for a pillow mask ..preferably a new style Opus 360 or an Oracle mouth only mask.

Re: Good price for Swift FX used 2 nights?
I'm not sure what to do now. It would be nice if the DME was a bit more accommodating so I could try a few. After reading a bit I am wondering about the Opus 360. It isn't very expensive (although shipping to Canada is $17. and we have life time prescriptions here so I am not sure if mine is still valid on cpap.com).
I slept better last night with my Mirage Softgel but had highter AHI than normal (still very low so I am not worried) and my leaks were much less than with the FX.
I don't trust my judgment any more. I am only 65 (next month) but have a cognitive deficit so I don't always think clearly or I will think something makes total sense until the next day. For example I buy stuff online and then when I get it I sell it soon after wondering "Why the heck did I think I needed that". Damned internet is not good for impulsive types with credit cards.
Anywhoooo, I guess I should try the FX again but I hate to get more cooties on it if I am going to foist it on someone.
Thanks for all the input. Hate to bother you so much with my thinking out loud but you are such a good resource.

Re: Good price for Swift FX used 2 nights?
I would suggest you keep it and try it again. Don't get rid of it unless you are absolutely sure it won't work. Later on if it still doesn't work..my offer still stands. I can wash the cooties off easily enough.Elle wrote:Anywhoooo, I guess I should try the FX again but I hate to get more cooties on it if I am going to foist it on someone.
I am in no rush at all. I have a used mask I can loan my step sister if I can ever get her up here to try it. She doesn't live close and a long story as to why I haven't just sent one to her.

Try clinicalsleep.com they are in Vancouver, B.C. I've bought several things there and only need a prescription if you are buying a machine. Also have shopped at cpap.com and they will keep your present rx on file.
Good luck

Re: Good price for Swift FX used 2 nights?
Hi Nan, I sent for a quote from Clinicalsleep when I was shopping for the FX and they didn't respond. I was wondering if it was because I was still 'on the books' from when I bought a Breeze (2006) and intended to use them as my DME but when I found the Breeze was leaking because of a crack in the swivel part they refused to give me a refund (they said I had had it too long....which was true because I was ignorant as to what caused the leak due to not having any support in the beginning).
I have dug up all of my old masks....all Mirage Activa, Activa Lt. and Softgel and see now that some of the medium head bands are larger than others and that is likely why I am having problems with it riding up over my head. I was rotating all of the headgear so I could just put it in with my weekly laundry and would always have a clean band on hand. I have now weeded out the larger ones and hope the problem is not as bad.
I AM going to give the FX one more try tonight. It really is a nice mask (and you can wear glasses with it) so it would be nice if it worked.
Boy, I yack a lot. Sorry.

Re: Good price for Swift FX used 2 nights?
Elle...take it from a fairly new newbie...if you wear glasses the Fx is a great mask especially if you like to read in bed like I do!! And tight it does not need to be...now that I have mine adjusted I slip it off and on and never have to readjust, so it can slip on easily making you think it might be too loose, but it really isn't! I have a small head so had to take the top strap all the way to the notch before the end...then adjusted my back strap to where it was comfortable. I wait til the machine starts blowing and then wiggle it around a bit to where I get full clear air flow and that's it...I never do another thing to it and have relatively low leak line. It really is a great mask once you get it to fit! Good luck and don't give up quite yet!

Re: Good price for Swift FX used 2 nights?
I would hang on to it if I were you.I usually use a Resmed Mirage Softgel nasal mask. However the bridge of my nose got a bit crunched up on Thursday night so its lucky I have the nasal pillows as a standby. I wore them last night and my nose is looking better already. Perhaps one more night with the nasal pillows then back to my softgel.
Re: Good price for Swift FX used 2 nights?
I had a leak problem with my FX the first night, turned out it was just the wrong size pillows. Swapped them out and now I can sleep with it quite loose with minimal leaks.
Ayr gel seemed to help my nose. Also, loosening the straps definitely helped too.
