Humidity & Temperature Settings

Post by atpuffin » Thu Jan 05, 2012 8:40 pm

FYI-I'm nearing the end of my first week on CPAP. I have the ResMed S9 Escape with the humidity unit and a special thermal hose. The set up person advised setting humidity at 2 and temp at 68, I found the temp too cool and woke rather dehydrated. For other reasons I switched from the nasal pillow to the Quattro FX full mask. I have adjusted humidity to 3 and temp to 76 but am still getting pretty dehydrated. Physics would suggest the higher the temp of the hose the higher the humidity needed (as the air would be dried along the length of the hose). Before I spend a month using myself as a guinea pig, I thought I'd ask here to see what humidity/temp settings others are using (please specify if you use a thermal hose). Thanks in advance for your input!!

I do NOT have a thermal hose, but do have an S9 Autoset with humidifier. They started me out at 3.5 which was pretty good. Right now I'm in a drier climate and bumped it up to 4.0.

Unfortunately the best way to deal with this is to use yourself as a guinea pig and try different settings until you're comfortable.

If you have the climateline hose, the humidity setting is automatic. You do not need to set it. I find a temperature setting of 79 to be the most comfortable for me. As Mary Z stated, you may have to experiment over a few nights to find the right setting for you.

Thanks for your input. As you can see I am a newbie. I think that cpap on top of all the allergy/asthma meds I take just make me particularly sensitive to drier air. So you are probably right that I'll just have to play with it to figure out what works best!
