Anyone have bloody snot when first using the CPAP - last night was night 4? Sorry, not really a classy topic.

Not really normal, but probably not cause for huge concern.

Are you using the humidifier? Maybe try turning it up a bit because dry nasal passages could bleed.

If you're using nasal pillows and they aren't fit right, it's possible that they could cause your nose to bleed as well, but I imagine that you would be complaining about this horrible sore on your nostril rather than just bloody snot.

So I'm voting that it's a lack of humidity issue.

I have the humidity cranked up to 4.5 out of 6.

I am just wondering if it has to do with the high pressure. I am currently at 25 Inhale and 17 Exhale. I have had an extremely difficult time adjusting to the pressure in my ears, but this morning, I blew my nose and it was bloody. I think I should stop treatment tonight until I talk to the doctor tomorrow.

I have not had this occur at all since before I started pappin'.
I think the extra humidity helps; but only having the blood WITH cpap might be a reason to tell the doctor.
I would not feel comfortable giving medical advice; but if it's just one icky Kleenex,
as opposed to a madly flowing nose/whole box of tissues/ light-headed thing, I would not freak out.
On the other hand, uncontrolled blood flow is an ER thing.

Sounds like your sinuses are very annoyed. Are you typically a sinusy kind of person?

AYR You can buy it at Wally World, Walgreens, and other stores. I had that problem when I first started cpap and AYR was the fix. I still use it every night before I hook up. It will sting the first few times you use it because your sinuses are raw. It was recommended by my Doctor.

Lauren...I had the bloody snot about the time the weather started to change, then ended up with two days of full blown nose bleeds! I got the Ayr gel, plus use the Saline Spray and that did help...the only problem was I then developed the continual hayfever/cold symptoms which have been ongoing for me since end of Oct.! Can't seem to find a good humidity setting that will stop it, so now I'm taking zrytec-d everyday and that has seemed to alleviate the problem (when I don't forget!). My pressure, however is not near as high as yours, so think talking to the doc would be a plus! Good luck to you!

I have that problem, too, and when I asked a doctor about it, she asked if I picked my nose. The answer is NO, but I didn't really feel like discussing it any further with her!

I've had it for a long time, before CPAP. It's just a tiny bit of blood, no big bloody nose, and hasn't kilt me yet!

I have heard that using a humidifier in your home/workplace helps a lot.
Some say to drink more water--maybe works--don't overdo.

Even Ayr didnt work for me. I have to put lanolin in my nose every night or Im cracked and bloody. Unless youre gushing and sure its the cpap causing it I wouldnt skip treatment. Those numbers are huge though, gotta be tough to sleep.
I never would have made it without this forum.
