Has everyone done their taxes yet?

Post by LilBuckaroo » Thu Mar 09, 2006 10:17 am

We did ours on Tuesday the via the computer route and E-filed the federal tax. We are getting a refund from the Feds, not enough to buy a house or car, but we don’t owe them anything. We owe the state a little bit, but they can wait until the last minute to get theirs.
Happy taxing everyone !!

Still trying I have to do mine, and I have to do my dad's too. He's 92, and has a business, and has lost all mental ability, so I have to file it without knowing what went on with the business and close out the inventory. Bummer! Not only that I have moved him in with me, as he requires 24/7 montoring. Am I stressed, I think so. Jim

Taxes

Post by Moogy » Thu Mar 09, 2006 11:29 am

Wow, Goofproof, you made me feel better. Sounds like your case is worse than mine. Sorry for you, tho.

I had been feeling sorry for myself because I have been working on taxes both for my deceased uncle and for his post-death estate. (I am the executor--he had no kids.) Fortunately, I have the help of his old CPA, but unfortunately, he kept terrible records. With me working on gathering his tax stuff and also working on other hot issues with the estate lawyers, I haven't even STARTED my own family taxes, and my husband's self-employment makes those complicated also.

Hang in there, Goofproof, and when in doubt, file for an extension. I hear that automatic extensions are longer this year--what is it now, 4 months instead of 5?

obviously, don't forget to deduct anything reasonable that you spent out of your own pocket on cpap, assuming your medical goes over 7.5 percent of your AGI.

Taxes

Post by Amigo » Thu Mar 09, 2006 1:05 pm

Yeah, I did mine in mid-February, but when I realized how much we owe I stuffed it all back in the file drawer until April 17th.

To add insult to injury, our first estimated tax payment for 2006, is also due then. Ouch!

But compared to Goofproof and Moogy, my problems are minor. All I have to do is write checks...lol.

We did ours in mid-February, and it feels like Christmas. Not only are we getting a nice return, but we discovered an error on last years filing.

We are retired, so it's pretty simple to file. But last year we forgot to declare the taxes we paid on our SS benefits (we just started getting SS). So, we're getting an additional refund which would pay for an extremely nice Apap - nice I don't have to spend it on one.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. We're in Hog Holler Heaven. ...........

Moogy,

That's what we call our daughter for short. Her name is Morgan. Any chance that's your name, too?

Moogy--source of the name

Post by Moogy » Thu Mar 09, 2006 2:21 pm

No, sorry, my real name is Brenda...The "Moogy" handle has been around for a while. There was a female nicknamed Moogy (called that by her kids) on Star Trek: The Next Generation. <Moogy's CORRECTION: She was on Deep Space 9, not Next Generation.> She was a member of the Ferengi race (the silly looking aliens with the giant ears). In her society, women were supposed to stay naked, at home, and OUT of commerce. Moogy embarrassed her children by violating all these norms.

My son started calling me Moogy (and I bet is was not just because I wear clothes--probably had to do more with that part about embarrassing your kids!)

Around this time, I took the name for my handle on the Internet Chess Club and for my email address, so it stuck long past the time my teenager stopped using it. Now he is in college, and he usually calls me Mom, or occasionally "Parent."

Tax time is a once a year challenge. I love it. I look at every dollar withheld as a personal challenge from the government, and try to get it back.

Although I have been doing my own for over 25 years, I started doing them on the computer about 12-13 years ago using Turbo Tax. It just makes it too easy.

I for one would like to say that the new tax laws work for me and my wife. I too am self employed, and don't like to give anything to the government.

10 Days ago I had surgery, (A brand new ankle) and didn't get it done before I went in, as I went to Florida and play a LOT of golf being I may not play until mid summer. I usually have such a time after such things as the anesthesia makes me loopy for a couple of weeks. Tues day I just got the stuff out, and bang, it was done, and with push of button filed. Cool

All that money to the government..........Come home to daddy.

Does it happen with any animated avatar or just this one? Never dreamed my avatar would affect anyone's browsing capabilities on a web site in this day and age.
