I hate doing this.....
I hate doing this.....
I am easily overwhelmed. I trust PEOPLE more than anything.
I am looking for a hose cover for my tubing. I've read that climatline tubing should NOT be covered, but also read a few posts where people do it anyway. I sleep in a COLD room with a fan blasting at my face. Mostly, though, I hate the jarring feeling of a cold, plastic tube touching me. I want something to cover it!
Also, does anyone use aromatherapy? I've been looking over Pur-Sleep's site and this site and I'd like to try out the Black Cherry, but I don't know how it works or if it is even worth it.
So any advice on aromatherapy and hose covers would be most welcome!
Thank you so much!

for hose covers... try padacheek's... very warm and very soft
yeah I've used pur-sleep... it's really good, though I've never tried the scent that you're interested in.

Dazzles,
I use a Snugglehose cover (makes it warm enough to snuggle with) on a standard hose (non-heated). I am currently using Pur-Sleep 'Clear' to help with some residual nasal stuffiness from a cold, have another one called 'Calm' but haven't tried it or any of the other scents that they have.

I use fleece hose cover on my climate line hose because I don't like the feeling of plastic. I also use Pur sleep. I like the Peace. Its easy to use. You get it in a kit and you put a drop of the oil on a little disk behind the air intake on your machine.

Resmed's site lists their tubing cover for use with the slimline or climateline hose. It's under accessories.

I have a hose snuggy... many available out on the internet to view/buy. Padacheek products are wonderful, but there are others out there, too. Do a Google search for cpap hose covers. Pur-sleep aromatherapy is great. I use Clear, Peace, and I have a new one to try soon.
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

I don't use a hose cover, but then again I have only been at this for a week. I do use Pursleep (Clear), I have calm too and from what I have read here I may need to try Peace. I have always loved aromatherapy and was really glad to hear this product existied.

Re: I hate doing this.....
Why sleep with tubing touching you in the first place, with or without a cover?
Suspend your hose! There are many ways to do this, and it's better than just letting the hose dangle.
With regards to aromatherapy, this whole concept has been really screwed up in the recent past. The original meaning, from the French, referred to extracts and essential oils. An example would be smearing tea tree oil on a cut because it's bacteriostatic, or using clove oil ("eugenol") to deaden a nerve during dental surgery. Because "aroma" makes English-speakers think of "smell", people have to come to believe that smelling things has clinical benefits. For the most part, this can be disproven, though it's admittedly difficult to use double-blind study designs. To use the above examples, all clove oil does when you're in pain and sniff it is to smell of cloves, and all tea tree oil does when you put it in a diffuser when you have an infection is to make the room smell like tea tree oil.
Use the modern form of "smellotherapy" if smelling a particular scent pleases you, but don't expect anything beyond a smell you enjoy. I personally find lavender very pleasant and soothing so use that sometimes. (There is some limited research evidence that environmental lavender scent might be mildly calming, but that data is so weak that it's much better to go by whether you like the smell or not.)
I would be extremely careful about how you use essential oils around your CPAP. I once decided to use some pure lavender oil on the defroster vent of my new BMW a few years ago because I like the scent so much. It dissolved the plastic! A number of essential oils are also downright dangerous to have aerosolized in your airway. I would strongly recommend NOT putting any essential oils in any part of a CPAP machine, including the humidifier reservoir, tubing, or filter.

Re: I hate doing this.....
Well the cover was as much for aesthetics as well as trying to add a nice, positive spin (and customization!) to my machine.
I'm researching hose suspension options (I can't hang anything on my apartment walls).
As for Aromatherapy....I don't think it will make me FEEL better, I just have a VERY acute sense of smell. I think it will make wearing the mask a bit more interesting is all

Re: I hate doing this.....
I use Resmed's zippered tubing cover. It is a nylon type material. I bought it because my bed has wood sides and the ribs on the tubing would drag on the edge of the wood. This solved that problem plus it added some weight to the tubing which helps it lay in place better instead of wanting to go back to the coiled up position from when it was new. It doesn't feel cold to me but I would guess the fleece covers might be warmer than the nylon.

Have you seen this one? Won't damage walls at home or away.Dazzles wrote: I'm researching hose suspension options (I can't hang anything on my apartment walls).

Re: I hate doing this.....
I ended up with the zippered/grey resmed hose cover specifically for climatline/slimline.
Pursleep stuff in Black Cherry (with reusable pads and a tray from etsy)
And the hose hanger from this site. It seems durable.
I would have loved to make the copper tubing one, it seems like it would be pretty.
Oh well, this was my gift to myself this Christmas. Hopefully these things will help me with compliance. I have no issues FALLING asleep now (when tired) now it is just STAYING asleep.

Re: I hate doing this.....
Dazzles,
You are doing Great! It takes time for the body to re-adjust from your pre-treatment days.
Our bodies are so amazing the way they can adapt, over time, to almost anything we throw at them. Take OSA; our bodies did whatever was necessary to somehow keep us alive and functional, though at times it was just barely, and for some of us this continued over many years. Now with therapy, the same process is going on in our bodies and will continue to adapt with each change or variable we throw at it, both good and bad, even the ones we consider to be small, insignificant. I have constantly to remind my mind, what my body already knows, it takes time!
I bet in just a little more time you will see your sleep time increase. I know mine has over the short time I have been doing this. I also don't sleep in on the weekends like I used to (I wake at 4:00am for the work day and used to sleep in to 6:30am – 7:00am on the weekend, but now get up around 5:00am – 5:30am) but feel so much more rested and alert than before CPAP therapy.

Glad you got your gear for yourself. If you don't mind taking pills some benadryl might help you stay asleep. Good luck.
