Two Year Anniversary, Lessons Learned

Post by newhosehead » Sat Dec 17, 2011 7:41 pm

Today may not be the exact day, but it is awfully close to the two year mark for me and my machine. I posted last year and it seems that this second year has both flown by and taken forever.
I really do not come here any longer, but felt I wanted to record my anniversary. I used to post from time to time and had periods when my therapy seemed to go downhill even though all data looked good. Very frustrating, as I am sure many of you know firsthand.
Time after time, I read comments encouraging people to see a doctor just in case something else was going on. A great many, if not all, of us know how frustrating that can be, but I took it to heart many months ago when, despite great data, I just did not feel well. That is probably the main reason I am posting. Please, please, if you are not feeling better despite trying "everything" get to a doctor. If that doesn't work, get to another one. Maybe there IS something else going on. Maybe it can be treated. Maybe it cannot. But at least you will know.
The knowing has enabled me to see my CPAP therapy in a different light. I do not feel the way I would like to feel and I am not going to. However, I do know that the mask I put on every single night is making a difference. I know that without it, I would feel even worse than I do. I know that it treats a specific problem that I have-obstructive sleep apnea-and it does it well.
So, as I begin a third year on the hose, I wish you all the best.

Congratulations on the two year anniversary of using CPAP, newhosehead. Thanks for coming back to post that good, good advice.

What you said about how other things can be causing a person to not feel great after getting on CPAP is soooo important. As you said, CPAP can be doing its part of the job perfectly -- keeping the airway open for good breathing while sleeping. Yet there can be other health issues going on that are completely unrelated to Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

If a person has optimized the CPAP treatment yet still feels bad, fatigued, worn out, sleepy, ill, whatever ... yes, they should try to find out what other health problems may be affecting them.

Hope everything is going much better for you now, newhosehead, and that the new year gets even better!
