Just An Update

Post by kaiya2465 » Thu Dec 15, 2011 8:07 am

I am finally up to no less than 4 hrs of using the machine a night(a milestone for me). I finally modified the Swift fx (hers) to fit just right. My goal now is to get to 6 hrs & I will not be complaining. I do have a question though for curiosity is getting to me. Has anyone ever heard of or used the alternative therapy called "Provent" & does it really work?

Thanks

Congratulations on the 4 hours. I know that is a huge milestone for you.

Provent? It has been discussed here on the forum. You can find the few threads on it by searching for Provent.
Not many here have tried it and I don't recall anyone having success with it. From what I have read at maybe 50 % of the people who try it get maybe up to 50% reduction in events, so if you normally would have a large number of events it wouldn't reduce them down enough to be effective alternative. I have read that it is very hard to exhale using those things in your noise. With your asthma....I doubt you would find it very comfortable.

I never considered trying them because with an untreated AHI of 53...50% reduction wouldn't even get me close to being effective.

Thanks for the responses & congrats. I think with what you said Pugsy about being hard to exhale with using them I will just continue on my way with Cpap, since I'm off that 1-2 hr mark I was stuck on for a long time. I even cut the pops down. Have a beautiful day!!

Thanks again!!

So what you were finally able to do Kaiya to eliminate your problems with the mask and the pops? I don't remember if those were the reason you weren't getting the hours of sleep, but if so let us know what you found to be effective! Good to hear you've upped the hours of sleep!

Kaiya, Did you end up trying a nasal irrigation system of some kind? I remember you were considering it and I've been wondering if you decided to do it and how it went for you if you did.

I did use a nasal irrigation, but "No Neti Pot" (lol). I figured out my barrette thing was not working it was actually hindering the use. So I sat & figured out a better modification for my Swift fx (hers). Plus I had to cut the chin strap to make it smaller & I wear it a little differently than it was intended, but it works...Still hate the strap & it will take some getting used to but I am actually liking the four hrs of real sleep now!!

You're doing some good "lab rat" work, kaiya ... with your fixes and modifications to mask and chin strap. You're making them suit you.

Hope the hours of good breathing sleep keep improving. You're definitely on the right track!

I had a bad night last night, with only 2 hrs on the machine. But it wasn't the machine or me fighting it, I was in alot of pain. I still have some pain now but am hoping to get the 4hrs I have been getting.
