ClimateLine helped me sleep

Post by Physician » Thu Dec 15, 2011 1:46 am

About a month ago the cold air hitting my nose created two problems:

1. It felt like a mask leak, even though there was no leak, and

2, The cold air delayed my getting to sleep.

I was using SlimeLine tubing. So my great med supply place loaned me a ResMed ClimateLine tube. Easy to connect. Didn't add water to the chamber. Set the Humidifier to "0", and the tubing to 74 degrees. What a difference ! AHI = 0.0 most of the time, and I fall asleep much sooner. Never had dryness and don't want to deal with water vapor.

So the ClimateLine tubing is definitely a plus.

I know what you mean about the cold air on the nose. With recent colder weather I was having ice cube nose even with a hose cozy and humidifier turned all the way up. Even husband complained about the cold vented air and he has never complained about the vent air before.

Respironics machines don't have a heated hose like the ResMed Climate Line (though I hear they are working on it due out next year sometimes). So I just wanted to mention for those people who don't have Climate line option for whatever reason, that there are other heated hoses that don't have to be tied to a particular brand of machine.

I got one of those "stand alone heated hoses" and I am quite pleased with the results. The air isn't like heated warmer than the body so it still feels cooler inhaling but it is much warmer than without the heated hose which was more like really cold air inhaling. So it isn't like hot air....just warmer than room air. Quite nice, prevents rain out (I like lots of moisture) and no heavy hose cozy to deal with which in my case wasn't enough anyway.

There is the Aussie heated hose..but I got the Hybernite 2300 heated hose. Same principle but half the Aussie price and I found it on EBay.

The really handy people can make their own heated hose with reptile heated cable. I am handy but not that handy.

So running the Resmed s9 humidifier without water in the tub is ok?

I really enjoy going to sleep with a warm beak.

Absolutely YES ! Verified this twice with ResMed and the DME. Make sure the humidifier is set to ZERO, and there's no need for water. The heating part of the ClimateLine will work.

And will the Respironics hose be compatible with the PRS1, or will we need a new machine to plug it into?

Good question and one that I do not know the answer to.

Stand alone Heated hose by itself is simple. I have the one I use now but to have a heated hose regulated with temperature and humidity in the machine settings I would expect a new machine. Probably a new PR S1 model/version/firmware. So at least new machine inner firmware and guts. Though for all I know they might have a PR System Two in the works.

I was just told that heated hose machine was in development and would be released hopefully sometime next year.

If it was just a simple heated hose that would work with the current PR S1 machines then I would have thought not nearly the delay in release.

My gut instinct leads me to think we would need a newer machine...Bummer for those of use with relatively new machines now. But I could be wrong and I hope I am.

The stand alone heated hose does a standup job though. I am happy with my purchase and just wish I had done it 2 winters ago.

Yep, Kinda what I thought. Pretty sad day when we get excited about swivel tops and heated hoses and start trying to figure out a way to buy another machine. I need a real life.

Though to be honest with my current trial of the ResMed S9 VPAP the placement for the hose isn't a huge annoyance for me. I find the water tank more annoying. I can't see the water line easily with that stupid little gauge thingy.

Yeah, what's that flapper about? Just put lines on the side.

Hi,

I don't understand what you mean, that you set the humidity setting to 0 and the heated hose to 74. When I select the humidity setting with the heated hose connected there is only one temperature and heat setting, on my S9 auto set. Unless you have to disconnect the heated hose, turn down the humidity setting to 0, then reconnect the hose?

Thanks,
Canadianguy

I think they are doing this with the Climate control setting in the machine to Manual adjustment. The default setting is Automatic adjustment. At least in the provider manual I see where there is a Manual option.

Climate control in auto mode you select temp while in manual mode you select the humidity & temp settings.
