Well it wasnt as bad as i thought. Nurse came in and showed me a few masks and i tried the nasal pillows. Not bad at all. Took me a bit to get used to. First hour tossing and turning and then went to sleep. Told nurse it was ok to wake me up at 5am and she said fine. She said she would not do that if i was in REM which she said i was. She woke me up from a sound sleep at 6am. Nite went by real fast. She told me I did fine whatever that defines as that i was in REM quite a bit. Didnt have much of a problem breathing thru my nose. I have another appointment in 3 weeks. Now I really want to start using the cpap. Do you always have to wait that long or does it take that long to read reports. All in all I was very pleased with the facility and the staff . They were awesome. So I guess my question is that I woke up somewhat tired after the titration and nurse said that was completely normal. Is that right could some kinda explain. Also, what really causes you to have so much more energy in the morning after a nite on the cpap.
Many thanks to all and have a great holiday season
Mark
I just got back from my titration overnite have questions
Re: I just got back from my titration overnite have questions
A sleep center will often tell you how long it takes to score your study and write the report. In my case they told me 7-10 days and that was about what it turned out to be. I had my titration study on March 9th and on March 25th I had my machine - a little over 2 weeks later. In some cases things may move more quickly but that was my experience.mark190 wrote: I have another appointment in 3 weeks. Now I really want to start using the cpap. Re: I just got back from my titration overnite have questions
2-3 weeks is standard turnaround for most sleep labs. I think it took about 2 weeks for my results, and then another week to get in with the DME to get my machine. It's frustrating to wait, but you'll make it.
It's normal to still feel sleepy when you wake up from your first night. You feel better than you did because you were sleeping better (not suffocating), but it will take a while to recover from all the poor sleep you've been getting. Plus, no matter how well you sleep in the lab, you were still attached to all those wires and getting used to the mask and all.

Were you hoping that after the one night on the machine you would feel awesome, like a new man? No more fatigue? You read about people that do and wonder why you don't?mark190 wrote:So I guess my question is that I woke up somewhat tired after the titration and nurse said that was completely normal. Or did you wake up feeling better and just a little tired instead of waking up feeling like you has been run over by a truck? Did you notice a huge improvement in how you felt in general?
With effective cpap treatment we sleep better, don't wake up as often (hopefully), our bodies get to go through the normal restorative sleep cycles like nature intended without the stress on the body from apnea events and low oxygen. A whole bunch of things go on that the end result is that we hopefully will feel better.
Some people feel hugely better right away and some people it takes a while and some people it takes a long time and some people can't ever seem to feel much better.

Re: I just got back from my titration overnite have questions
My turn-around time from titration study to CPAP at home was about 2.5 weeks. That's about average.
As for feeling better, that took about 2 weeks of CPAP therapy. For me, the issue was that my body had to slowly work through years of sleep debt living, and so I felt a little better each day =)
Hang in there, these next few weeks until you get the machine are the worst part of it. Everything about you wants to start using it NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW! That's perfectly normal, and a very good sign that you're ready to actually use the machine once you get it. Stay calm, remember that you've lived with this for years, so another few weeks is a walk in the park!

Sounds like it went well, Mike.
While you're waiting, this would be a good time to read and re-read, and re-re-read Janknitz's great information -- so you'll be prepared to choose the right DME -- "durable medical equipment" -- the home health care store that will provide you a machine and mask.
LINK to Janknitz's excellent - "WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU MEET YOUR DME Part I"
http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/what-y ... me-part-i/
A shortcut rule of thumb to remember about the two major brands (ResMed and Philips Respironics) of machines is:
Don't accept any machine that includes these specific words in its name:
"Plus"
"Escape"
"Auto IQ"

Re: I just got back from my titration overnite have questions
My report results were instant. Doctor was there when I woke up, had read the reports and make his decision.. The CPAP was all set up with pressure settings aleady by the DME that was there. Worked great. THat was 6 years ago. Been good ever since xcpt that I have tweeked a few times on my own..
Re: I just got back from my titration overnite have questions
Hope you're lucky like i was and get results and machine within a week. Had my study the 15th, had my machine by the 22nd of Sept.
I felt soo much better after my sleep study.... i had a split study.... my numbers were so extremely bad (AHI in REM was 124) i had to get titrated in the middle of the night about 3-4 hours in.... My dr works in two locations.... one is actually in the same place i had the study....
Wish you the best of luck.
