Hello,
Last night was my first night with my machine. Thanks to this forum, I was able to understand what I was getting. My equipment list isn't quite right. My humidifier is the H5i but that wasn't a choice. I did manage to download the ResScan 3.16 software. Is the 3.7 available for download somewhere? (not that I can really understand much of what I do see!) I thought I read somewhere that the clinicians manual was on the software. At this point, I can believe I just dreamed that up. I asked for a full mask because I breathe through my mouth a lot. I just took the mask they brought out to me because when I was just overwhelmed by the possibilities when I tried to research them. I knew most people usually try more than one before they find what works best. Any suggestions? I sleep on my side, mostly. I have long hair that was just a joy to deal with in the headgear. Any suggestions for that? Thanks for being here!

I have short wash n wear hair so I can't speak from experience but I have read of many who have had good luck putting their long hair into a pony tail and sticking the tail thru the back of the headgear between the upper and lower straps for stabilization.
I've had excellent results side sleeping w/my Quattro FX full face mask. But I do think "experience" helps us adapt to side sleeping w/any mask.
I also sleep w/a soft down pillow that allows me to punch and scrunch it into any shape I need for comfort AND allows me to punch a dent in it for the mask to fit.
Many are happy w/their PAPillow that provides excellent support for the neck and with cut out sides so that you sleep w/your face to the edge of the pillow w/the mask hanging over the edge.

Re: Another Newbie, from Indiana
ResScan 3.7 is actually an older version despite its number and it wouldn't work with the S9 machines anyway. Version 3.16 is the very newest and just recently released. 3.7 is much older back when ResScan was actively sold to patients and that is why the link for it comes up as a choice. Cpap.com used to sell 3.7..back when I first started therapy in May 2009, it wasn't too long after that that ResScan was pulled from the public market and no longer sold to patients.
I do remember seeing something about the clinical manual being included with the install but I can't find it in the software. It's there somewhere but I don't know where. I didn't pay enough attention and I don't remember.
You can find it in UncleBob's signature though. memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=38643

Your Humidifier is listed in the humidifier equipment list...scroll way down near the bottom (3rd from bottom I think)...shown as S9™ Series H5i™ Heated Humidifier with Climate Control

Newbie from NorCal Looking for ReSScan, comparing A-Flex to
Hi,
So today I went through the 7 hours of research to figure out that my provider was going to charge me $600 copay for a machine available online for $350 new. I'm hopefully getting a ResMed S9 Autoset with the humidifier. After the first night in the sleep center I had a horrible sore throat for three days. They didn't seem to care, and in fact gave me practically no information about the sleep studies I did or the equipment. Plus a 500 dollar bill from a neuroligist. (sp)
I have failed to find access to resscan through the normal channels I use, would anybody mind sending me a link or info? Just found it, thanks a lot you guys.
I was looking at the new REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex to compare. With the $200 for the software I figure I would step up to the S9 and have the nice heated humidifier. If anybody has any opinion on the comparison between these two units I would be interested. It was very difficult to navigate REMstars changing product lines and names so I'm not sure I'm even comparing apples to apples.
Thank you all, thanks for a way out of this insurance controlled racket. My provider was going to send me a "Respironix 250" which I understand is a super basic old resmed with no humidifier or significant data collection for the $600 copay, oh yah and they said it might go up after the new year. What a pile, cpap.com set me straight.
When my father got his machine four years ago through legit channels his experience was much different, he ended up with the RemStar PRO 2 and a local tech to help him analyze the data.
This is one of the weirdest aspects in the medical field I have found. Wow.
Thanks for any input you guys may have,
Pablo Rotter, 34 year old male, extremely high BP for last ten years, otherwise healthy, just diagnosed.

Re: Another Newbie, from Indiana
Don't let the $200 for software stop you. Try reading about Sleepyhead in the forum.
Re: Another Newbie, from Indiana
They are both excellent machines. You can find Rescan download information in Uncle Bob's signature here if you go with ResMed.paugustus wrote:I was looking at the new REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex to compare. SleepHead works quite well with both ResMed S9 and the PR System One machines.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sleepyhead/
I sent you a PM about other ideas.
The newest Respironics machine to compare with the ResMed S9 AutoSet is the PR System One Remstar Auto Cpap machine with AFlex (I have this machine). They are both excellent machines and either would serve you quite well. The heated hose humidification system with the ResMed S9 is a plus that the PR S1 doesn't have. The heated hose is an extra cost though. There are heated hoses that can be used with the PR S1 machines also but not tied into the humidification part of it. I use a heated hose with my PR S1 machine. I like lots of moisture and don't like snorting water (rain out) so I get the moisture I like without the condensation. So it works for me.
