H5i humidifier

Post by burlyblack » Sat Dec 10, 2011 2:00 pm

Just wondering....If I sleep in, and all the water in the humidifier is used up, will this damage the humidifier if it runs without water. I am also using the climate control hose.

I had my remstar pro model M series humidifier replaced because of that. They replaced because of the warranty. Last night the water level got very low and seems to be not working.

No it won't hurt, the machine doesn't actually know there is no water, there is no mechanism for it to actually measure the water level or directly monitor the output humidity.
I think some people intentionally run them dry.
Mine will just last for 3 days @ 8 hours plus per night.
If your not using distilled water (I don't) you will end up with deposits in the bottom of the tank that may be difficult to clean

Sometimes, when mine runs dry, there's an 'off' smell that wakes me up.

I get that smell, even is the humidifier is off. It will make you get out of bed and add water!

On the average, how much water do you all use in a 7-8 hr. sleep. I use up the whole container of water, set at 80. Greg said his lasts 3 days. I don't quite understand. Maybe fill me in Greg.

Mouth breathing and mouth leaks can make you use more water , the escaped air through the mouth uses up the water more quickly . Either get a FFM or a chinstrap .

Thanks for the replies, but I would still like to know how much water the average person use in a 7-8 hr. time span.

It would be difficult to get you an "average" because there are many factors that affect how much water is used.
Ambient room humidity and temperature
Live in a desert or rain forest jungle
Pressure used
Personal preference in humidifier setting

Even just with me I can have a wide variation in the amount of water used from one night to another.
Some nights I can see almost the entire tank of water used and the very next night maybe not even half the water will be used and not make a single change in any of my settings. Same number of hours of sleep. So I don't really have a good "average" for me..much less have it correspond with someone else's average. Someone else might use the identical setting and sleep same number of hours and use same pressure and still not use the same amount of water that I use.

Unm, er, probably about this .................. much!

The amount of water that will evaporate from a humidifier depends on a whole bunch of factors. These include machine settings, the ambient termperature/humdity in the bedroon, and the effective leak rates.

There simply is no meaningful "average"

Cheers,

Bill

Like everyone has said - there's a boat load of variables in the last week overnight my water level goes from one line down to the next.

Well, I happen to keep track...

Consistently sleeping in a wide variety of environments due to travel, I use just under 200 ml a night. I put 200 ml in at the beginning of the night, and when I wake up I toss the remaining, which isn't much.
