new mask and chinstrap

Post by sleepymama » Fri Aug 27, 2010 12:02 pm

so i talked with the DME about my experience last night. she said like a few of you had already said to me, that i must be mouth breathing (pasty dry mouth and dry lips).
she gave me a chinstrap and also gave me the hybrid mask (pillows and mouth mask as one) to try since it doesn't hurt the bridge of my nose. she told me to try them both this weekend and to let her know which one i likes better. she called me again today before i went there to see how my night went. it's nice that she cares enough to check in with me. here is the link to the new mask https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html
anyone else have this mask? is there a certain way i should wear it?

i also wanted to mention that i had a physical done this morning and it's true that my BP is on the low side 100/60. i know i mentioned before on here about experiencing dizzyness, lightheadedness, heart palpatations. just thought i would update you all. he said exercise might help but he can't give me pills for it unlike if my BP was high. i wonder if the low BP is related to sleep apnea/lack of sleep.

I have the Mirage Liberty as well, have been using it for about a week and have found it to be not too bad. I didn't now if I would adjust well to the nasal pillows and to my surprise I did. I noticed some leaks though and bought some Remzzzs mask liners (folded in half because they do not make them for the Liberty) and they seem to have plugged the leaks up rather well (so far anyway).

I also have a full face Quattro which was hurting my nose I tried it with a Remzzzs liner and it worked much better.

I called my doctor this morning, who is going to call my DME to see if the Remzzzs liners are covered under my insurance (Cigna). I hope so. I went to padacheek, http://www.padacheek.com this afternoon and bought a microfleece covering for the straps on the Liberty, and a durable mask liner for the Quattro.

It seems to me that CPAP masks are designed to be disposable, and as a result they have a lot of cheap parts on them, i.e. the straps and clips, so I m buying these items to give myself the best comfort I can.

My thoughts are, I am in this for the long haul, I may as well make this as painless as possible.

true on being in it for the long term and wanting to find something that is most comfy. i'm going to try the mirage tonight and see what happens. the pillows have been good for me these past 2 days, the only diff. in the mirage is the mouth part of the mask. going to re-fit it on my own while laying down to get a good seal and see what happens.

Did Cigna cover your Remzzzs? If so, about what was the allowable amount per month?

Thanks,
Josh

Let us know how it works for you. I'm considering getting a hybrid as a solution to sinus congestion. Instead of staying up with sudafed and the neti-pot waiting to be able to use my pillows.
I've been having trouble with mouth breathing too. I ordered a sample pack of chin-up strips and tried one last night. My leaks were minimal and it wasn't uncomfortable.
