Hi, I'm planning to walk The Way of Saint James next year, around September or October, for around three or four weeks. I haven´t found much information in the net about using a CPAP machine on the way.
I found in this website http://www.csj.org.uk/i-faqs.htm#electricity that a guy was carrying a 10-meter extension lead, which it is a good avdvice, since there is no guarantee to get a bed near an outlet. This sort of lead amounts to some weight to be carrying by foot on a 500-600 km walk. The guy also carried his equipment in plastic bags, due to the rain. Even when you walk on dry season, it might rain.
In this walk, you only carry what is strickly necessary for your life. Usually the soap you use it for hair and body, and you don't carry some ounces, not a whole bottle.
Usually you get up early and walk as much as you can when it is not so hot.
Carrying water usually is only for drinking. If I carry the humidifier, I plan to use bottled water, as I do in Guatemala where I live, since distilled water is not easy to find.
Some of the issues I would like to plan are:
1-- Cleaning and caring for the mask and tube, without carrying more than it is necessary, every gram is counted.
2.- Whether to carry around the humidifier, and how to clean and care for it. My pressure in the last 3 months is 11.
3.- In case of carrying the humidifier, whether to carry the regular tubing or the heavier ClimateLine.
3.- There is not much time to dry things up during the day, so washing things around might be done in the evening, unless there is a way of drying things up during the walk.
Thank you for any advice you guys can give.

If it is humid where you are going, leave the humidifier. Leave the climate line hose. I would carry enough mask wipes for the trip, and just rinse the hose with water as necessary. If you have a spare old hose take that and discard it. The extention cord is a good idea. Think about a trial of Provent to see if you tolerate that treatment and can use it for the trip. Yes, wrap your machine in plastic. Good Luck.

Um, I have friends who do the 'ride the rockies' bicycle tour. They have chaser cars to carry clothing, food, water, etc. I wonder if you could get a friend to make sure that you have a power source and your CPAP wherever you plan to be at the end of the day?
