Washing the hose and Drying it

Post by wmcanally » Sat Nov 26, 2011 12:01 pm

Is it ok to dry the hose with a blow dryer allowing warm air to dry the inside . Washed the hose today and it has some droplets of H20 left. Or is is ok to use it tonight if some are left. It wont be dry by tonight I'm sure and as of now i don't have a backup hose. I know the humidifier puts moisture back in the hose, but want to make sure i don't wake up sick .

Thank you

I just hang mine over the shower rod to dry and there are always drops of water left in the hose that night. It just adds a little humidity and doesn't hurt anything. I wouldn't go to a lot of trouble drying the hose, but I would definitely get a backup.

I agree with the back up, if the one you've got gets a crack or split in the tubing or the seals, you might be sleeping without the machine for a night or two or a few depending on how quickly you can get a replacement.

As for the droplets, I don't worry about it. If it's not dry by the time I go to sleep it will just become part of the humidity I breath anyway. Have never gotten sick from it.

But definitely make it a priority to get a backup hose (and mask if possible).
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Thanks so much. I do have 3 masks and will be getting another hose very soon. My insurance will buy one every 3 months. Only been one month since i started. I dont think there very expensive, so ill get another one. Just wanted to make sure the hose didnt need to be completely dry before use.

When I was my hose on Saturday, it's not dry until Wednesday night - if I let it just air dry.
Instead of using a hair dryer, you could just hook it up to your machine and turn the blower on. I'd be worried about the amount of heat from a blow dryer - unless you can turn it down.

As others said - a back up hose is a big help.

Cheers,
xena

will that interfere with the data it records.. Someone told me not to do that due to it measures it as a leak. Im not sure, it sounds good to me if its ok to do it.

wmcanally,

I am not totally sure, but it might do as you say and measure as a leak. One suggestion from someone here (I don't remember who) was to use a older machine to dry the hose out, if you have one. I only have the one machine so I just do the 'lasso' swing/move to get most of the H20 out and then hang it up to dry until that night. I don't worry about any left over moisture as I use a Humidifier and any drying of the hose will be short lived anyway.

Thank you. I have it hung up and ill shake it some before bed tonight. I figured since i use the tank ( humidifier) it would put it back in anyway. One thing for sure is its clean. LOL.. New hose coming next week, so ill have a back up.

Yeah, I'm learning here that it is good to have back ups of everything possible. Who wants to miss having good sleep because of break/damage, etc... I feel now like I have had to endure over 15 years of bad sleep, so now I want the good sleep from this point on! I never want to go back for even one night...

I agree. Im 44 and ive snored for 15 years. My initial AHI is 61. So i have had it severe. Now i average 1.9 to 2.2 AHI. I love the machine and wouldnt want a night without it. My DME says if it breaks within the warrarnty ill get another one. ( a loner if needed until the new one arrives) Ive recieved alot of info thats helped me deal with this. I appreciate all your advise and ill sure do what you suggested.

I have used my machine a couple times to dry the hose out. If you try that, just make sure you pull your data card out so you don't record a SUPER APNEA event!

After running your CPAP with the humidifier each night you accumulate moisture in the hose...do you dry it out every night?? When you dry your hose by running your CPAP, unless you disconnect your humidifier, you are putting moisture back in. Moisture doesn't hurt the hose!

Im glad to hear the moisture doesn't hurt. I clean it each Saturday. I ordered another hose today. My insuracne replaces it every 3 months, but ill have a spare until 2 more months when the new one arrives.

Thanks for all the advise.
