Quattro FX - size and liner issues

Post by busylady » Thu Nov 03, 2011 1:26 pm

Was given a small mask, which I felt was too small because my jaw could drop out of it, and I'd get lots of leaks around the mouth if I'd try to smile. Might we not smile in our sleep?? And, shouldn't our jaw relax when we fall asleep, and perhaps drop. Don't want or need a chin strap because of TMJ issues. Tonight will be 1st night with a Medium, which seems a much better fit.

Liner -- I'd tried Pad-a Cheek liner, but had to adapt it. I didn't get a seal along the bottom. My jaw could drop right out of it. I thought it might just be because of the small size. Tried the liner with the medium and had the same problem. I've adapted the liner by cutting off the section at the bottom, so the liner ends above the mouth. That has been working much better for about 2 months. I could get a seal at the bottom, which will no doubt be better with the Med. size. I still like the liner over the nose and the eliminate air blowing in my eyes. Thought I'd share this in case anyone else had the same issue.

I have the FX also in large and was having the same problems with the mouth as you did and also had consistent leaks at the nose into the eyes when it slid up. I also got the Pada Check liner and it stopped the nose leaks but I couldn't get it to stay put, so I did the same thing you did and cut it. That fixed the moving and the nose leaks but couldn't get a good seal at the bottom with the half cloth. I'm now looking at the quattro, I think that this may keep it put better as I'm also an active side sleeper.

The FX really moves around compare to the regular Quattro but the FX with a liner is easier to slip a finger in and scratch an itch. I know that seems like a silly reason to keep using the FX but thats pretty much it for me. The regular Quattro seals and stays in place MUCH better and you can use a liner with that too. I have both masks.

I have the Fx and it fits great and does not move around. It seldom leaks. Mine is large with medium straps. For a mask to work it has to fit you
properly. If you can fit a finger in to scratch an itch, it's not adjusted properly y.

Well your definition of "working for you" may be "cant slip a finger under the mask" but mine is "keeps a effective seal to deliver therapy and is comfortable". So you may think my mask is not adjusted properly but my monthly AHI last month averaged 1.3 and sleep time averaged 6:37 (and is improving!) with no mask marks or complaints about comfort AND I can scratch my nose if need be!

Clamping down further seems pointless especially on a full face floater like the FX. Tightening up may not mean better seal even if I needed it. It could make it worse.

I am struggling a little with my Quattro FX. It has a tendency to move upwards and leak around the nose. I am tempted to get a chin strap or similar to pull it all down and keep it there. I had some success loosening the upper and tightening the lower straps. OTOH my machine is not reporting high leaks, AHI is reasonable and my custom fleecey cloth liners are comfortable. If I were not able to scratch my nose (which is important and frequent to me) the straps would be too tight IMO, though I only need 5cc's so I'm on easy street compared to most here.
I had previously used the Quattro. the above issues are a small price to pay for not having something screwed into my forehead all night. both masks were medium and, yes, the FX seems a tad smaller.

I like my Full life by Respironics-which HAS a chin strap, which helps keep it down so the upper nose area stays sealed better.
These guys apparently know some things which don't seem to occur to ResMed.
My mask also came with all 3 sizes of cushions. (from our host site)

The FX gear needs a strap connecting to the two bottom straps together under the chin, that would help. Also, I tried tightening down the bottom quiet a bit and left the nose somewhat loose, tends to stay down where I want it. Small gear is working now that it has had a few days to stretch.

I am so sorry you found the mask liner for the Quattro FX did not fit the small mask. If you purchased them from us, you can certainly return them for a full refund. We stand behind all of our products 100%. I have tried to make the mask liner to fit the medium size, so it can stretch to fit the large but is a bit loose on the small. I am truly sorry that you did not find it to work for you.

Let me make this right, I do not want you to feel you ever waste money on our products.

Karen

thank you pad a cheek i appreciate it

However im australian and honestly sending the one I havent cut up wouldnt be worth it. The other one ended up in the bin in frustration.

I do appreciate you coming on here and replying though, it shows good customer service.

Prehaps you would consider making a small size for the fx though? it would make it easier for fitting on the small sized mask

Karen, I too have the small Q FX, and it does swim in the liner a bit. No need to replace mine, but I think making a Small version for just this mask would be a great idea. You make great stuff and the medium for all sizes makes sense expect it just doesn't work in this case.

I also had similar troubles with the Quattro FX FFM. I have switched to the F&P FlexiFit 432 FFM and am extremely pleased with the fit, function, comfort and low leakage with it. I am a side sleeper and went thru 4 masks in six months before finding this extremely comfortable and easy to service mask. Good luck!!
