Hello Again,
Well my 2nd night was not as good as my first; again I slept with the machine for 6hrs. , pressure 10.6, AHI 13.0, leak 12. As well you asked about my settings, checked the machine min. is 5, max. is 12, EPR is 2. When I woke the last time I felt good enough to turn off the machine and rise from bed. My wife was still sleeping and didn’t know if my restless periods had caused her some loss of sleep. I left her to sleep a couple of hours alone, so she would feel rested. During the night I was woken a few times by air leaks and a mouth open, each time I made adjustments and went back to sleep. In my sleep I do turn from side to side, front to back, if I remain on my back or right side facing the machine everything is fine. When I turn on my left side the weight of the hose pulls the pillows to one side allowing leaks. I should learn not to turn to my wife as the air outlet flows straight at her. I am also thinking I may put a hook up above my head on the wall so all the hose is not hanging over the side of the bed. This will reduce the weight pulling on the mask as I turn. I could try the pillows with a headgear, but would like to try this first. Still all said I feel rested, and seem to be coming out of what some have called a fog (but to tell the truth until now I didn’t know I was in one). I just seem to be more alert now.

Mouth open is not good. - It means therapy is going out your mouth and you probably woke with an apnea which is why your AHI is so high.
There are several possible solutions - it depends on your face shape. 1) chin strap, 2) taping your mouth, 3) full face mask of some sort.

Using the software take a look at the leak line itself to see for sure how much leak the open mouth is allowing to happen. It may or may not be a prolonged period of time to greatly impact the therapy itself. It is possible that the open mouth leak/air gushing is waking you immediately...anything that causes fragmented sleep is unwanted.Canadianguy wrote:During the night I was woken a few times by air leaks and a mouth open, each time I made adjustments and went back to sleep
I use nasal pillow mask. I sometimes wake during the night and realize that my mouth is open and sometimes I even have a dry mouth. When I look at the software reports I can't find any leaks of any size. I can only assume the open mouth was of very short duration and not long enough to hurt anything in regards to effective therapy.
So look at the leak line itself to see exactly how much and how long that open mouth is actually happening.
Of course we want to limit it as much as possible even if it is tiny amount of time if it is messing with your sleep.

You have to upload the image to a photo hosting site. I use Photobucket but there are any number of other free sites.
Once uploaded all you have to do is either link to that image address
or do like I do...copy the entire IMG address including brackets and paste to post here and image shows up without needing to link.
Or click on the Img box in the editor here and insert the url addy of the image.
Several ways but first step is putting the image out there in a photo hosting site.
We can't do attachments from our own computer here at this forum. Can't send them in private messages either.
It is just the way the forum is set up.
I just save a screen shot as a jpeg file and upload it to photobucket. No different than doing any other image file.
Jpeg is just smaller than say bmp file.

Re: My 2nd nights sleep
Pugsy,
Here is the photo results, thank so much once again for your help. Last night I had the head strap a little to far forward which may have caused more leakage. I adjusted the straps and put a small clamp on my headboard, made a soft cradle for the hose to rest in between the handles of the clamp. Will see how things go tonight with the new position of the nose pillows and no pulling from the hose hanging over the bed.

Re: My 2nd nights sleep
It's difficult to get the time scale with this report because it includes that short time at the beginning. So everything gets scrunched together making things much smaller than usual.
You do have several leak spikes into an area where we don't like to go but I can't tell if they are hugely prolonged.
Let's see how tonight does with the hose management system you have implemented. You have some leaks that do warrant work but you also have times with minimal leaks. For being new to all this..really not that bad.

Re: My 2nd nights sleep
You really sure try out the Swift LT instead. It's a much better mask! It doesn't have the weight in the hose like the FX. I tried the FX and I hated it. Like you said, it would pull out of my nostrils. The LT doesn't do this, plus you can ratchet or swivel the pillow more directly into your nostrils. The FX just goes straight in. I sleep with my hose above my head and the FX really isn't designed for this arrangement, but when it hangs downward it pulls the pillow out. Very bad! The LT is just more secure feeling. Love it.
