Hose Dilemma...Cat Stew anyone?

Don't kid about cat stew, when I was a teenager (many years ago) our favorite restaurant was a small chinese place down the road. About 6 months after we started going there, the place was shut down by the health department because they were using CAT as their meat.......................no wonder the cat population in our neighbourhood was going down---- puke.. puke... puke!

Ugggggggggggo! I've heard that story before, but always thought it was a joke! I never believed that really happened... until now! Puke is right!

True...I was there. It was about 1958-60 time frame and the town was Eastview, Ontario. My dad's cousin was the chief of police and he told my dad. Not a rumour --true!

I agree with you... no cats in the bedroom, day or night. Their dander gets in the air and the bedding; it's not sanitary and it's not conducive to good nighttime respiration, in my opinion. I'm sure there is enough time for your wife to bond w/the cats in the evening before bedtime; as cats are mildly nocturnal, they often like to play at night, as is evidenced by your punctured hose. We all love our animals, but sometimes people can lose all sense of perspective and boundaries where animals and small children are concerned. The cats will stop scratching at the door eventually, when no one opens it for them.

This story reminds me of my kitten crawling under our dish washer before I screwed back the front lower dashboard panel. The shrieks from the kitten were above 120 db. Sadly, the cat got out alive from there but ran over by a car six months later.

I let the cat sleep in the bed, and yes, he has bitten holes in my hose. I figure they aren't that expensive so I keep a spare on hand. For a quick fix, take that plastic cling wrap and wrap it tightly over the part with the holes, and then put duct tape over the cling wrap. (I just have the plain old hoses..nothing fancy). It works just fine for a while until you can order another one. You can solve the problem by just using a hose cover. I got mine from padacheek, and the cat just snuggles against it rather than piercing it. Now, if I can figure out how to keep him from sticking his paw on the vent on the mask.

There is a self fusing silicone tape on the market which I've heard great things about for use in patching holes, but I've also had good experience with electrical tape (couldn't find the silicone tape in most stores at night, so I settles for electrical tape). The cats bit holes in my hose one evening (he was trying to protect me from the facehugger of Alien fame). After that I purchased a hose cover and have had no problems with hose holes since.

Well, I fixed the hose with the teflon plumbers tape and then electrical tape over it. Had a horrible nights sleep and my charts show it, but then again I have a nasty cold going on so I won't put too much stock in the numbers. Sad part is though when Wife came to bed, she allowed the cats in the room. Grrrrr.

Quick update... I didn't have a chance to review my data this morning but just did. As I said, the hose repair was done well. I even plugged the end of the hose with my hand to block all exit of air to see if I could feel or hear any leaks and it was all good (just repeated it now to be certain), but guess what??? My leaks were horrible last night. Well, it must have been my mask as I was coughing all night and I bet it loosened the mask at times and I know I was hearing leak many times last night coming from the mask. I'm fairly certain it's not the hose though.

Buy a new Hose and a Chow Dog. Have the Chow sleep on the bed, and you won't have any more cat problems.

I have two dogs Kody... I'd have the dogs sleep on the bed, but wife won't allow it. She says they are filthy because they lick their parts. Right... and the fact that the cats walk is kitty litter and then all over our bed is not filthy how???

LOL My cat does the same thing with her paws, they must like the feel of the air coming out of the vents. Now that I am on CPAP and no longer snore my cat sleeps next to me in bed and uses me as a heated blanket =)

LOL!! I am starting to see that there's more to this story. I have to admit, I let the cats on the bed and like them there but dont let the dog because shes stinky and sheds a lot. Yes the cats shed but she sheds as much as 15 cats.

And cats DON'T't lick themselves???? Ha! I have news for your wife!!!!! We have 10 indoor/outdoor cats (all spayed and neutered, all drop-offs or wander-ins) and 4 litter boxes. So I KNOW whereof I speak. CATS LICK THEMSELVES.

Cats have some kind of deodorant in their saliva.
It generally cleans up their breath no matter what they have been licking.
Dogs are not that lucky.
