How often do people replace their cushions?
So I know what the insurance schedule is to replace my cushion but I am curious see what the bell curve looks like.
How often to do people replace their cushions and filters (And what kind of cushion is it)?

I'm on my first, but I've only been using my machine for 10 days. My insurance allows 2x/month. I intend on get a few early on (next year we have different insurance) and checking out pieces online so I can "build my own". Want to build up a backup and maybe take one to my girlfriends. The CPAP machine itself will be the hardest one/most expensive one to get a backup for, but I'll do it eventually.

Re: How often do people replace their cushions?
With my Quattro I need to replace at 3-4 months. Occasionally they last a little longer, but when I start getting abnormal leaks, I replace. (I only clean the cushion every week or 10 days).

Re: How often do people replace their cushions?
I've only been using CPAP for 40 days now, but my insurance will allow 2 per month. I'm getting them to have just in case. I have two in circulation right now. I will take one off, clean it good, and place it in a zip lock bag and then use the other for a week. Why do I do it this way, no idea, but it sounded good at the time. It think it had to do more with allowing the one I just washed to dry completely before I have to use the mask.

Swift Fx
15 Months, 8 hours plus a night and still going.
The last time I boiled them I noticed they had hardened a little.
1 month average data; 95% leak is 0.0, AHI 0.4 (Sleep test AHI 58), pressure 8 - 15

I've been boiling them every month or two for about 20 minutes with a teaspoon of BiCarb of Soda for the past year, It removes all the absorbed oil. It works for me, but no one else has reported positive results.BrandonB wrote:

Re: How often do people replace their cushions?
Like to have 4 Swift FX nasal cushions-then I can wash them and change them every other day and only have to do it once a week.
If a cold or other issues wash nightly.
For the Quattro I'm still using the orig cushion-6 months old.
One more good thing about having data-I see no reason to replace until leaks or comfort become an issue. (Insurance pays as medically needed. If I'm smart I get some supplies before the end of the year and the $5,000.00 deductible cuts in-policy goes til March when rates will prob sky rocket- premium is already up 40% in last 3 years.)

Re: How often do people replace their cushions?
It might be better to put them in a cloth or paper bag or paper towel and sit them somewhere clean and dry. A plastic bag might keep them a little more damp and dryness should help keep germs from growing on them.Perrybucsdad wrote:I will take one off, clean it good, and place it in a zip lock bag and then use the other for a week.

Re: How often do people replace their cushions?
I must be a perfect fit for my nasal pillows. I have never ordered a new set. I have replaced the entire mask twice in two years and liked the fit of my old nasal pillows from my first Opus 360 better than the ones that came with my new one. All the Opus pillows are soft and supple with good support after many nights of use. I don't notice a difference, other than that the new ones don't conform to my nose as well as the old ones.
I also have a Swift FX that I alternate sometimes. My main complaint is that the velcro and the straps on the Opus headgear wear out from side sleeping. The silicone on the FX is much sturdier.

Re: How often do people replace their cushions?
I am getting replacements for MFX nasal cushion, a supply to last 2 weeks each. Just started that with dme supplier. It seems excessive but I used the first cushion maybe 4-5 weeks and changing to a new one made a big difference. I think I will also rotate, good idea.
When I was on pillows I read a suggestion here to bake them in a loose tin foil wrap. One word, DON'T!
