not happy with DME

Post by kennyr121 » Sat Oct 15, 2011 3:12 am

I am not happy with the DME that the sleep center sent me to. Is it possible to change? I get my supplies approved through medicare and I have a copy of my original prescription.

You can use any medicare approved DME. If you go to

http://www.medicare.gov/Supplier/Includ ... tatus=True

you can put in your zip code and get a list of DMEs in your area that are medicare approved.

As suggested in the previous post it should be easy to change. Sometimes a talk with the owner or a supervisor will rectify any difficulties- they don't want to lose your business. If you are renting a machine through Medicare until they buy it (or perhaps you already own it) you could lose all the money you've paid in rental.
Good luck, Keep us posted on what you decide. Oh, as an aside- if you have a Medicare Supplement they may not use all the same DME's listed by Medicare.

If you have secondary insurance coverage picking up your Medicare copays you will want to call them and ask what local DME CPAP providers they are contracted with. Hopefully you will have the option of more than one thus giving you more bargaining/negotiating room. Just knowing you are not satisfied w/your current DME provider will often "inspire" another provide to be more conscientious in any services they provide to you.

It is possible to continue your Medicare capped rental for the CPAP w/this original, unsatisfactory company, but to get any further supplies such as masks, etc. from another local provider. I did that about 5-6 months after starting CPAP therapy. Once I completed my Medicare capped rental I was totally done w/that original provider. All you need is your script.

If they gave you that machine, I wouldn't be happy with them ever.

Most often the provider is not happy with the amount that Medicare caps the payments at. They know they can get more money for the same equipment when billing private insurance.
