Viral/Bacterial Filter

Post by FeelingBetter » Thu Oct 13, 2011 1:42 pm

Do any of you use the viral/bacterial filters? I have terrible allergies and have already been battling sinus infections and viruses and this is just my 3rd month of therapy. On one website, it satets that these filters are hydrophilic and should not be used with a humidifer unless it can be placed between the machine and the humidifier chamber. Maybe some machines are set up that way, but Ihave the Devilbiss Intellipap and I don't think there is a way to put it between that machine and the humidfier. Does anyone know how these work?
Thanks,

Generaly a waste of time and money, and possable can interfer with XPAP treatment, with APAP. UNLESS you breath filtered air from your Bubble Room, in that case move the XPAP inside the Bubble Room. Jim

When I was using my Respronics M Series cpap, I tried using them after the humidifier, by the second day they were clogged up with moisture and had to remove them in the middle of the night, so I could breathe. I won't even try them on my Intellipap because they will interfere with the auto sensing. I have about six of them left never opened. For my allergies I get a shot four times a year, and use a neti-pot twice a day. if it is real bad I will take some Benidril , and if I absolutely have to I will use Afrin before going to bed, but only for two days in a row. The Afrin is real easy to get hooked on to the point of making it a lot worse.

Thanks,
I use one of these filters between my mask and my hose and haven't noticed any difference in CPAP performance. That is,
the numbers seem to be the same for pressure and for AHI, etc. What I do notice is that the diffuser filter in my mask stays very much cleaner with this setup. This filter is in the exhale stream and diffuses the air that has been in my lungs first. I like that that air is cleaner -- it means that the inhaled air was cleaner also.

I dose up every night with two or three OTC alagery med's, I'm not suppose to use them (Heart), but not breathing, seems to affect my heart too, go figure. Some med's I'm on seem to make thing worse but that's part of the game. Jim

FB,

Goofproof hasn't walked a mile in your moccasins. He has no way of knowing whether they would be a waste of time and money for you.

These filters

https://www.cpap.com/cpap-filters/bacte ... covers.php

are designed to attach to the output of the humidifier. They do wonders for allergies IME. It only costs $7 to try one.

Be sure to read the specs. The aren't compatible with some machines. Also they affect the therapy if your pressure is less than 7.

Caution: Is that an Intellipap pic in your equipment? I don't think these filters are compatible w/Intellipap.
I have had these filters clog up on me too.

Thanks,
I find that the machine filters out even dust particles that I am allergic to. I can also say I have had 1 cold since 2007 while using cpap. Is your immune system compromised? Other health problems?

Really, I'd gladly settle for one block in those moccasins, that would quadruple my range, do you sell plastic bubble rooms too, one of those might help me too. Jim
