Here's last nights data while using a full face for the first time. I recall having some leakage in the beginning. I had to tighten everything more and I believe that took care of it, but again, I really don't know what the data means yet. Also, sorry for so many screen shots. I had to scroll down in the software each time in order to see the data on some of the tabs. I believe this is everything:

new cpap user-problems with mouth leakage even with chinstap
Re: new cpap user-problems with mouth leakage even with chinstap
I wish you good luck with this problem. I, too, experience recirculation, to the extreme, with severe dry mouth. I've tried different chin straps, Cpapcap, Cpappro, hybrid and full face masks. In my opinion, recirculation will continue to be a problem with me and with you, until the mouth remains shut throughout the night. And as far as I know, nothing has been invented to address mouth recirculation. This is not mouth breathing. Mouth breathing can be handled by full face masks, but not recirculation. In my case, taping is the only remedy I have found to work. I have used a cpap for 16 years and recirculation was detected a year or so ago an got worse, to the point where I wasn't getting any extended sleep at all, waking up three to four times each night with extreme painful dry mouth. That's when I started buying straps, caps, etc., and trying different knids of masks. Nothing worked. Then I discovered taping on this site, tried it and by golly, it worked great. However, the paper surgical tape left terrible adhesive residue on my face. which was a booger to remove each morning. Then I found J&J cloth tape, which worked well, but was somewhat expensive, since I had to use four strips each night. No residue, but uing a lot of tape. Then I found out about 3M blue painter's tape, No. 2080 EL, again, on this site. It's the best yet. Two inches wide, 60 ft. roll, for around $10 and lasts a long time, using only one strip 6" long. I sleep good all night, every night. Again, good luck and please let me know if you find anything else that prevents recirculation.

I've brought this product up before on this thread. It is a mouthpiece from "nosebreath.com" . The mouthpiece isn't intended for sleeping per se, but rather for keeping the tongue in a upward/forward position, which does indeed prevent you from breathing from the mouth, thus preventing recirculation.
I did a search on here and some said it works perfectly, others say not so much. I've emailed the dentist who markets it, and he explains that the "heavy mouth breather" one will work best, as it keeps the bottom jaw closer to the top, which helps to keep the tongue in position. It is 300 bucks though, so I'm skeptical to try it. It would be interesting though to have one and use it with nasal pillow. It could just be the ticket.
I tried the taping once, and air continued to either blow up my cheeks like Loui Armstrong playing trumpet, then eventually started to escape through tiny "vents" in the tape, making an "air vent" type of sound, which of course would wake me up. It was more difficult to secure due to my short beard. Not to mention the whole tape on the mouth thing felt very disconcerting to me. Perhaps I could get used to it, who knows.
Well, thanks for your input and I'll let you know if I decide to try the nosebreath.com mouthpiece.
Re: new cpap user-problems with mouth leakage even with chinstap
Ive just swapped onto a quattro nasal mask, the gel one.
The swift pillows were the best and easiest Ive tried, although mouth leaks were making it a misery. I have the chin strap that doesnt really work and really irritates the skin on my chin. (or slips off my head, only a single velcro resmed band)
The gel nasal has the same problems......ONLY WORSE THAN THE PILLOWS! the mask leaks more and puts more pressure on my forehead and top lip...never mind the bridge of my nose.
Ive tried every mask they have now I think, with no real luck. I sleep on my side, and cause the masks to leak. The pillows, well its the mouth breathing.
I once heard an urban myth that someone was actually not leaking with a mask and could use the pillows without mouth breathing!
Surely its a myth.........or is this elusive "Human Unicorn" actually out there?

I buy 3m Gentle paper tape, and rip off 2 3-4'' long strips.I then fold the ends of both under on one side and use the tape to tape my mouth shut.I fold the
edges under about 1/4'' on the left side to make the tape easier to remove the next morning.I joke with my boyfriend tha I am The Perfect Woman because I tape my own mouth shut at least once a day, every day.
