Hubby's getting a sleep study!!

Post by SilverAnn » Wed Oct 12, 2011 10:07 am

When I started getting help for my apnea I wanted my husband to check it out too. He said he would, and last week he had an oximetry done. He talked to our GP yesterday and is being refered to a sleep specialist. I am so excited for him. Now that I am starting to have more energy I see how tired he is all the time and I want him to feel better. I hope he can get some help!!

Congratulations! Some of these thick-headed men can be so difficult to convince to talk to a doctor about sleep or agree to a sleep study. Good on your husband for having the good sense to do so.

Now, you got yourself a good PAP w/the S8 AutoSet Vantage so I take it you are already plannnig on bargaining for an S9 AutoSet for him? Or were you thinking of crossing over out of curiosity and going for the PR S1 BPAP Auto?? Or maybe the DeVilbiss or the Fisher & Paykel??

Come on, 'fess up, whatchya got in mind?

I really like my CPAP machine, it is quiet and the humidifier works great. But I really trust this Doctor, and I think she would find the one that is the best for whatever problem he is having.

Ach, I misspoke myself anyway. I meant to say PR S1 Auto, NOT PR S1 BPAP Auto. Duh! Do be sure whatever she recommends is a fully data capable xPAP!

I guess women "qualify" as thick-headed too. I have been trying to get my wife to have a sleep study, but to no avail. I have begged, sweet-talked, bribed, yelled, wept... everything I could think of.

DH got his machine 7 months after I got mine.
He still says it leaves him tired; but he's such a trooper--always wears it.
He also doesn't let ME drop off without masking up.

Very smart of you to suggest that.

Very smart of your husband to agree, and very smart of his GP to get the ball rolling.

Here's an update: Hubby did his first sleep study at the clinic last night. He said he performed for them very well!! Frequent restroom breaks, snoring, night sweats, waking up gasping for air etc. He sees the sleep Dr. on Monday. I have a lot of confidence in this doctor, but have been praying for inspiration for her in regards to my husband. We both have had a miserable last 10 years with sleep problems, lack of energy and constant illness and infections. I'm starting to mend and seeing the difference in my life makes me want very much for that help in my dear husband's life.

Fast turn-around! (considering how long it took to get started)
It's good when they don't feel obliged to make you wait.

Me and my GF are both on the hose. Took me almost a year to get her to go do a sleep study, but after she did and after helping her avoid the pitfalls of getting used to the hose (mainly learned from this forum) we both do pretty well now. In fact I'm jealous of how long she can sleep. 10 hours last nite.
