Welcome to the club no one really wants to join - but are so very glad we did. Hate the apnea, love the pap.

Welcome Martin. You are correct. This is a good place to land. Look forward to talking with you on the forum. Take a moment to go to User Control Panel and fill out your Equipment Profile using text option. This will be important later when you want to ask questions. Thanks

Welcome Martin! Are you a current CPAP user, or are you in the early phases of finding out if you suffer from sleep apnea.

I look forward to finding out more about you.

Welcome! The folks here have created a spectacular community for CPAP users. Without their help, I'd be a hell of a lot worse off than I am now.

Stick with it, the first few months of CPAP can be difficult, but it does get better, and does so very quickly for most people!

Hi everybody,
Recently my quality of sleep reduced seriously. I had loud snoring, and went to bathroom more frequently during the night. I googled them and found ur forum. Please give me some tips. Thanks in advance

Hi newbie!

I love love love London!

I think you'll find that (short a few fixable flaws), and an inexcusable lack of a mission statement, this is, in my opinion, the best CPAP board in the world.

I guess Mars will inform you (via email) about the blood oath you must take, just the tiniest slice of your finger, seriously, I barely felt it it all, and then, after a lot of time passes, an eternity really, you'll agree this place is the sh*ts.

By the way, when I'm in London, can I crash at your place?

Heck, I would have been voted out a long time ago! Since starting cpap therapy, I 've noticed that my trips to the "mens room" were less frequent... just sayin' .

Welcome to the forum! If you have questions, please be as specific as you can. No matter what your issue, no matter what your gear, someone here will have good advice for you.

Oh, and appologies for some of the members, who have clearly been in this looney-bin too long!

Go and see your doctor (GP).

He might refer you to a sleep specialist and in lab sleep study or first give you a pulse oximeter to take home and wear during your sleep.

The pulse oximeter will record any oxygen desatrurations indicating the presence of sleep apnea and a need for a sleep study.

Best to act quickly as if diagnosed with OSA it can be a bit of a wait to get a CPAP machine, it can depend on the NHS trusts budget in your area.

Hi Martin...welcome aboard...pretty new at all this myself, but I agree with Uncle Bob! Talk to you doctor about a sleep study...after having that done you'll have a better idea of where you're at! Great people here, lots of great advice that goes along with them as well!

Martin,

Welcome to the group. This board has been a valuable resource to me. I've been on the CPAP for just over 4 weeks and it has already made a marked difference in how my day goes. Yes, start with a sleep study and see how it goes. The usual process is sleep study, the diagnosis (assuming you do have apnea), another sleep study with a CPAP machine to determine the settings. In my case I was so bad (not breathing 56% of the time) we bypassed the second study.

So see your Dr. and hope all goes well.

BTW I concur about 'Love London!' I was there a year ago myself and will be definitely going back.

Okay, so you snore and go pee a lot at night. That may or may not indicate sleep apnea, but as others have said, get to your doctor and see if you can get a poly-sonogram (PSG) or what is termed a sleep study. This will tell you a lot of different things (what your O2 desaturation rate is, how many episodes you have, etc.) It will also be a requirement (at least in the USA, but I assume it is also in the lovely UK) to getting a CPAP machine if one is needed.

Also, there could be other things going on that may be causing this and it's good to rule all that out.

Hey cpax, I really happy to hear that you've hung in there and are having some positive results, I know it was rough for you at first. Keep up the good work.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Welcome Martin.

I visited London back in July 2007, loved it. My in-laws as their 45th wedding anniversary gift to themselves took the family on a European cruise and a 3 day stay in London.

Sit back, relax, grab your favorite drink and read, read, read and learn, learn, learn. However, there are some folks on the forum (thinking of McSnoresalot) you NEVER EVER want to read with your mouth full or a full bladder. *chuckles*
As with the others, had it not been for this forum I would still be at cpap pressure of 8cm, morning fog, continued headaches, stuck with a dumb cpap and left wondering why my therapy is not working.

Welcome aboard!

Starlette
