My hair is a mess!
My hair is a mess!
I have fairly long hair, very fine, but highlighted so it does have a bit of roughness to it. My headgear is turning it into a rat's nest by morning. I am losing hair every morning and am certain I will be bald by the end of my first month on cpap! Any suggestions?
Re: My hair is a mess!
A loose pony tail can help. So can a papcap or a bandana under the headgear.
Re: My hair is a mess!
I have really long highlighted curly hair and what I do is I make a ponytail and twist into a bun, wrap a scrunchie around the bun and do that.
I dont like hair in my face at night either and the headgear from the FX for her doesnt mess it up. Try that
Hope that helps.

Re: My hair is a mess!
I have short hair, but wear a Kufi (small knit cap that fits on the crown of your head) under my headgear. It also has the advantage of keeping my headgear in place. I googled "Kufi" and came up with lots of hits. I got mine from amazon for $3.
Hope you find a solution that suits.

One might also wear the paper caps that people in the OR wear to keep air from falling onto sterile instruments.
Enough coverage to protect hair but not so much pressure as to give "flat hair syndrome".
Or also make a cover for the top and back straps out of fleece. Similar to the side strap covers but longer for the straps.
That way the straps won't cut into or break the hair strands.

Check out wig caps. You will find them in most stores that sell hair extensions and black girl hair products. They are thin and breathe and are designed to protect your hair.

If you switch to the Oracle 2 mask, there are no required straps (there is only one and it is optional to use), hence no hair mess-ups.Tee wrote:I have fairly long hair, very fine, but highlighted so it does have a bit of roughness to it. Here is my post on my first 10 months of experience with this mask.

Some folks adapt to it quite well and others not so much. It is really a different feeling.
Edit: See my avatar - no straps!

Re: My hair is a mess!
My hair has been thinning for the past 4 years, with the last several months being worse. Because of several medications and my age, I'm sure one of those is the issue, but I have considered that the pressure from the headgear or if it moves around at night as I toss and turn could be a contributing factor as well. I will definitely be looking into these caps.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi Gals,
Yes, every day with cpap is a bad hair day it seems...
Mind you, I'm almost bald, but you should see my beard after a night of wearing a chin strap! Yeeks

Re: My hair is a mess!
Yeah, my hair is more like rabbit fluff, I wear it spiky (see my avatar), wet ya can see my scalp. Reading William Davis, cardiologist, book Wheat Belly...he mentions hair loss as a reaction to eating the hugely hybridized wheat most of us consume daily....yikes!!! I hadda put it down as it's just so disheartening to think that this might be what happened to my hair. Been wheat-free since reading that section about hair loss...already had gustatory rhinitis following wheat consumption (for the past decade or so) and right now still dealing with the 'withdrawal' symptoms; never ate much as I eat low carb bit still, looks like I've got all the symptoms mentioned in the sections I scanned so far...ah well, one more challenge to deal with. Time will tell if this helps; what wheat does essentially for those of us suspectible this way, is to loosen the bonds that hold hair to the scalp thus any tugging will pull out the hair...lovely, just lovely
Meanwhile, I made wraparound fleece padding for all the straps that touch skin or hair last December -- huge difference, much less hair loss since then and much less noticeable strap marks.

Re: My hair is a mess!
Since going super low-carb, I thought my hair had been getting a little thicker.
Too thick can be a pain, too.
No one has good ideas on how to deal with this wild bushy creature on my head.

I spent hundreds in my youth perming my hair to get that curly bushy look. My sister with long blond ringlets spent hours straightening it with an iron.

I put my hair in a bun, put the mask on, then pull the bun up so the strap rests under it. No hair issues for me.
