Chin strap use
Chin strap use
Do most people put chin strap on before putting mask on or after?

Re: Chin strap use
Typically I have been putting the chin strap on before the mask, but last night I reversed the order. Lowest AHI I have had in a long time. Few events. So I might try that order again tonight. I would be interested to see what others have to say.

Re: Chin strap use
Mine goes on before the mask. With my mask and chinstrap, it's practically impossible to do it the other way.
Re: Chin strap use
Strap first for me. I think I saw some instructions for a chin strap that said to put on the strap last.

Re: Chin strap use
Put it on first with nasal mask or put it second with the nasal pillows.
With the Resmed Mirage softgel nasal mask if you put it on second the chin strap will go over the mask strap and it will affect the strap tension. Nasal pillows are never stable enough in the first place so by placing the chinstrap on second you give added stability.

Interestingly my DME told me to put the chin strap on first. I am using Swift LT nasal pillows.

With the Oracle 2 mask the order doesn't matter. No straps on the mask

Re: Chin strap use
I was told to put the chinstrap first, but I have actually found that putting it over the mask helps secure it in place a bit more, so I (at least in theory, I have no data capabilities) have less air leakage to worry about.

Re: Chin strap use
I put my Chin Strap on second, over the straps of my Respironics SoftGel Mask.
The Chin Strap does help to reduce any air leaks, although I did not have any major leaks before.

Re: Chin strap use
I'm sorry for deviating from topic, but how do you know that you don't have any major leaks if your device doesn't record data? The reason I ask is because my machine doesn't either, and leaks are my major concern right now. If I could be sure I had no leaks I could literally sleep easier, but since I have no way of objetivelly telling, I wonder how do you tell.StevenXXXX wrote:I put my Chin Strap on second, over the straps of my Respironics SoftGel Mask.

Re: Chin strap use
I tried both ways and found that for me putting the chin strap on first gave me lower leaks. At first I thought the other way would work better, but for me it didn't. I guess it's another one of those works better one way for some and better the other way for the rest.
I also put a loop made from one leg of a pair of women's tights on after both to put a little bit of upward pressure on the pillows.

Sorry to hear that. Bricks suck. I never felt confident about my leak situation when I was using a brick. My new non-brick showed me that I had every right to be concerned about it.Armando wrote:... how do you know that you don't have any major leaks if your device doesn't record data? You can always tell whether or not you have a leak - even with a non-data capable machine. You just can't see the actual volume of that leak.Armando wrote:I'm sorry for deviating from topic, but how do you know that you don't have any major leaks if your device doesn't record data? If your mask is leaking, you will generally hear & feel that leak - even the intensity of it.

Re: Chin strap use
Armando, We are all different. I sleep through huge leaks for 20-30 minutes sometimes. If I have mouth leaks I wake up during the night with a very dry mouth, like everything is stuck together dry. I think this typically happens in deeper sleep stages and doesn't wake me. The same with mask leaks.
