Do I have a sleeping problem?

Post by admaster99 » Thu Sep 22, 2011 7:10 pm

Ok I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet and would really appreciate any input anybody has!

All my life I have digestive problems for at least 10 years or more, mainly diarrhea and abdominal cramps. And also all these years I have been extremely tired like sleeping easy 10- 15 hours a day! If allowed to, well just recently my uncle who had dealt with fatigue all is life found out that he had a severe level of sleep apnea. And he got on cpap and it helped him instantly and he said it saved his life and hes a new person.

So my mom thought it would be good if I had a sleep study done but I have found the tests results very indecisive. Meaning my sleep efficiently was 97% for 6 hours and so my AHI is 3 which I know is low. But marked on the study there was reportedly several occasions where my oxygen saturation dropped down below normal levels and my lowest level was 78%. So is that bad that my oxygen saturation dropped that low? And more then once?

The sleep specialist didn't think I had a problem, but my regular doctor is concerned because she checked my oxygen level again another night with one of those finger things. My oxygen dropped down to 85% again. So what does that mean?

I know this isnt the best place to ask this question but I havent really received much response from other forums. So ultimately I guess do I need treatment with Cpap? or No?

Your AHI may be low but if that one apnea per hour is long it can really affect your oxygen levels.

Well I guess I was wondering if maybe UARS comes into play. I know most of the episodes I was having where hypopneas. So I dont know if I'm breathing shallow alot while I am sleeping and that is causing my oxygen levels to drop and still causing problems for me even though I'm not being aroused.
