Anybody try the "Ultimate Chin Strap"
Anybody try the "Ultimate Chin Strap"
I am a newbie to CPAPTALK. I have not any luck with PureSom Ruby Adjustable Chinstrap XL and ResMed Swift FX. It seems my jaw drops quite often in the midddle of the night and air will blow out of my mouth. I get "dry mouth" and a poor nights sleep. I really do not like the design of this chinstrap very well.
I came across the Ultimate Chin Strap from Sleep Apnea Solutions Inc. http://www.sleepapneassolutionsinc.com and its inventor really talks up this chin strap for $34.95 + shipping. Has anyone tried this chin strap? They claim that your jaw will not drop...Also, I am a bit concerned that the chin strap completely covers your mouth with this design..however maybe that's what help it work.

The Hannibal Lecter http://sleepapneasolutionsinc.com/?page_id=2 ? I couldn't get your link to work.
OMG certainly not for those with claustrophobic issues. No, never tried it. Never saw it till now. I think I would tape before I tried this contraption but hey, whatever a person can put up with and get good sleep and good therapy is okay in my book. Someone reported using a bandana over the mouth instead of tape with some success. This thing goes one step further.
If a person could still breathe through their mouth in extreme emergency...

That looks like a "torture" strap
Do a search here for ace bandage....it works.

I have a mustache/goatee so I think that taping will not be an option for me. The suggestion about using a boil and bite mouthguard seems interesting.Would a mouthguard prevent your jaw from dropping?
Also, will have to look at using an ace bandage.

Re: Anybody try the "Ultimate Chin Strap"
It might, it might not. If I was back starting all this stuff I would certainly have spent the $1 and gave it a try. I know I sure spent more than that amount on other lab ratting trials. Got lucky, don't have to tape anymore. I was going to suggest the Poligrip nasty stuff but while it does seal it sure would be a nasty mess in the mustache...wally13 wrote:Would a mouthguard prevent your jaw from dropping?
Ace bandage might work, never tried it but I did try headbands. Problem with those is the fact that I couldn't find any that were really wide enough to give the support needed. Never tried the papcap either but I thought about it. Lots of positive remarks about it.

Re: Anybody try the "Ultimate Chin Strap"
I have used the strap and find it very helpful.. the strap do not fit my head properly and the company offered to tailor it to my specs.
The fabric is Very comfortable. The only criticism is that the head crown strap slides off my head. People use a variety of ways to fis that. I intend to fix a strap (using velcro attachments from the crown strap to the neck strap. I think this will solve the problem. If you have a flat crown you will have no trouble, Flat heads win LOL

Tape works for me, in spite of facial hair. I just pucker my lips a bit as I apply the tape (2" 3M micropore) so that it has something to which to stick.wally13 wrote:I have a mustache/goatee so I think that taping will not be an option for me. Re: Anybody try the "Ultimate Chin Strap"
I've used the Ultimate Chinstrap for several months. It is very comfortable and works perfectly for me. I have had problems with the crown strap slipping off. I'm using one f the extra straps from one of the unworkable chinstraps that I've tried - the 1"x12" elastic with velcro on each end - attaching it at the sides and around the back to stabilize it. Perfect!!

I have been using this http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_AntiLeak_Strap.html to stablize the Ultimate Chin Strap. I loop the top and bottom of the strap with it. It prevents the top from slipping off my head. Works wonders!

Re: Anybody try the "Ultimate Chin Strap"
Wally, I too, am a mouth breather. I successfully use the Swift FX for her along with the chin strap that I am talking about. I keep my leaks very well controlled, never having gone above my docs' recommendation of 25. Here is the link. I hope you find it worth looking in to....

Re: Anybody try the "Ultimate Chin Strap"
Alicia,
Will have to give that chin strap a try. I found the Ultimate Chin Strap to be uncomfortable. I struggle at times with my jaw dropping and mouthbreathing and I am trying to wean myself off of a chin strap. I use a cheap sports mouthguard that I insert at the upper teeth area and it helps reduce mouth breathing when using Swift FX nasal pillows. The journey continues.
