Your best night of sleep . . . without xPAP?

Post by Mike6977 » Tue Sep 13, 2011 8:15 am

.

Mine: .Boyscouts.. When I was twelve and camping in the Catskills..Long day of hiking in the forest..Night falls. .After a campfire dinner, we all bunked under a huge wooden lean-to. .Got into my sleeping bag. Incredible high with each breath of pine-scented, oxygen-saturated air.. Glanced up at the sky.. Through the silhouetted trees, a million stars twinkling over head.

I closed my eyes for a moment. .When I opened my eyes, it was day.

Felt like Superman all day long.

Sounds divine.
I can't remember a great night's sleep.

The night my youngest slept through the whole night - 23 years ago.

Now it will never be a night without again.

For me, the memory is quite clear because at the time I considered it the best I ever slept, and I've considered it the best ver since. Back in 1977 when I was in the Marines, we were headed from Okinawa to Japan on the USS Alamo, which was a troop transport. There were several small compartments that that held perhaps 30 or 40 troops. The racks were stacked 4 high with a 3 inch mattress and only about 16 or 18 inches of space between your rack and the one above. Of course, that sounds claustrophobic and uncomfortable and it certainly looked that way. What made it the best sleep I ever had was the rocking of the ship. I fell alseep easily, slept deeply and quite comfortably, and felt really great when we woke up.

Never again did I have nights sleeping that were as great as that.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

In July of 1989 a paper cut morphed into a serious infection (lymphangitis) which went up my arm and landed me in the hospital on strong IV antibiotics (after surgery on my incredibly painful thumb). Despite all that, the not so comfortable hospital bed, and being awakened by nurses at random hours, I had the most refreshing sleep that I can ever remember. After 36 hours in the hospital, me, my wife and my 6 y/o daughter went on a planned vacation. I felt more peppy than any other time I can remember.
