Hello. . .
Received my S9 Bipap Autoset machine yesterday with heated humidifer last night. I haven't updated my equipment list yet. The settings are 6 to 20. Respiratory Therapist stated she "guessed" at the settings after discussing it with the company. I thought the doctor wrote what he wanted but I was concerned his prescribed settings were too high so I am fine with the settings. . just confused. I understood doctor's order should have been followed? Anyway, on to the first night information. . . I downloaded the Rescan software for the S9 and bought a SD card reader and it all works, Yay!
I am trying to research what "Tidal Volume" means. I'm also a bit surprised that it detected a few Central Apneas which have not been detected on a Sleep Study. . . that's also confusing to me.
Yes, I still woke up with the usual aerophagia problems but not as bad and could have been caused by the new nasal pillow mask they suggested I use. I don't think the pillows worked. I'm going to try the mask I was using because it's comfortable and may work better with this new machine.
I like the machine. Very quiet.
So, does anyone know what the "Tidal Volume" means and what is a normal Respiratory rate for nighttime? Is it between 15-17? Just curious.
Thanks,
Shelley

What was the pressure in corelation th the centrals? I have heard that higher presures can cause centrals, again I could be wrong. I am sure someone with more experience will be along.

Re: S9 Received - First Use last night
Tidal volume is the volume of air inhaled and exhaled at each breath.
Normal respiratory rate for adults is 12-20. Would be at the lower end of that range while sleeping.

Re: S9 Received - First Use last night
There is no S9 Bipap Autoset. There is the S9 Autoset that is an apap and the S9 VPAP that is a bi-level machine. From your pressure range description it sounds like the S9 Autoset. A bi-level machine has inhale (ipap) and exhale (epap) pressures.ShelleyH wrote:Received my S9 Bipap Autoset machine yesterday with heated humidifer last night.

Just as you finish inhaling, put a balloon in your lips and blow it up as you exhale. Just as you finish your exhale and start to inhale again, pinch off the balloon.jabman wrote: So, does anyone know what the "Tidal Volume" means
The amount of air in the balloon is the tidal volume.
That's the concept, except you make the same measurement during normal breathing.

Sorry. . . it's the S9 VPAP Auto . . it is a BIPAP. This was a very big deal for me to get.
My vision is not great with the charts so I'm having trouble with reading them.
I have one question though. When they show the events, central (color black) and a number above it. . what is the number above it? Same with the Obstructive event? Those are in red with a number above it. . . I'm just not sure what that means?
Thanks for the info on the Tidal Volume.
The craniocervical instability that I have can change sleep apnea and can be a problem with Central Apnea. However, the 2nd study I had didn't pick any up. But, I'm not going to freak out just yet!
Just a big wake up call to treat the Sleep Apnea and get serious about this. . .

I believe the number you're talking about is the duration of the event. There's a way to look at the flow waveforms to dig down deeper.Guest wrote:I have one question though. By the way, the type of therapy is "bilevel." "BiPAP" and "VPAP" are trademarked names for "bilevel."
