Resmed Autoscan Software

Post by daniel » Thu Feb 16, 2006 7:05 am

Hello, I have been using the Resmed S8 for a month and a half now and am wondering if the software from Resmed is worth the $150 price tag. I've read some of the posts here that say it's the worst of the three programs.

Anybody out there using the Autoscan software and finding it useful?

Thanks!

I have never been able to fathom why some folk bag the Autoscan software.

In terms of uncomplicated display of data it struck me as one of the easiest to follow and in my own research more closely matched what was happening that what I was able to extract from the Encore Pro software.

If you search you will find discussions on how much of the supposed data reported, is subjective to a particular machines algorithm.

The supposed snore index on the Remstar is not taken seriously by those in the know.

The HI & AI numbers can be *markedly* different between machines & for the same patients. This is not such a problem providing one looks for 'relative' data from one brand of machine. By this I mean relative to that machine on an ongoing basis.

I have concluded rightly or wrongly that those bagging autoscan have either vested interests to promote or have 'barrows' to push.

Cheers

Autoscan Software

Post by Bob_123 » Fri Feb 17, 2006 5:45 pm

I'm still trying to get used to this type of therapy so I'm still an amateur at all of this. However, I have the S8 Auto Vantage as well as the Autoscan software and the card reader. The card reader is around $68. For me the software seems to work fine and is worth it simply because it gives a metric of sleep quality for the given settings and enables record keeping to be straightforward. I'd buy it again if I were redoing my purchase.

I haven't used any other company's software package.

I have the the Vantage also and software but cannot get the Detailed Report to show anything more than flat lines. Is this not available with this system?

It doesn't look like it. I think the Detailed Data has to come from the ResLink add-on device, which isn't compatable with all of the ResMed machines.

Using a ResLink

Detailed and summary data from a patient's flow generator are stored on a SmartMedia card by the ResLink. The SmartMedia card is removed and sent to the clinician at the end of the study period. The SmartMedia card is inserted into a SmartMedia card reader attached to the clinician's computer, and the data can then be downloaded and viewed in AutoScan 5.7.

You are a little late to be worrying about the software, you chose your machine, you must use the software that works with it. Any software is better than no software. Without it we are flying blind. Jim I'm not pushing a 'barrows' , I'm just looking for a place to dump." Jim

Not pushing a barrow either. Have used all three manufacturer's machines with their software. Liked PB's Silverlining software and Respironics' Encore Pro better than ResMed's Autoscan. Just a personal preference for a lot of things about them -- mainly the way the data is displayed on their respective graphs.

On the plus side with ResMed machines (very good machines, btw) you don't even need the software to see overnight AHI info and leak rate. Push a button or two and you get to see that right there in the machine's display window. Pretty neat.

So--what is the advantage of having the software? I want to make a decision about this before Resmed's October changes.

What is a "good" number for nightly AI's and what does one adjust to improve the treatment?

(By the way, Rested Gal--thanks again for your help last night. I was a desperate man in hopes of discovering that the APAP had defaulted to original settings. No such luck. So now I'm wondering why I'm so tired in the mornings and why I have such weird, but recurrent and thematically recurrent, dreams every night. I've been doing CPAP for long enough that I should not still be rebounding from the past.)

advantages:

1) you can maintain a record of your treatment pressures, AHI, AI, HI, leaks, compliance without having to enter it manually into a spreadsheet or database.

2) provides detailed data nightly data so that you can determine when specific events may be occurring like leaks, AI, HI, and pressure variations if in auto mode *** this was my main reason for getting software.

3) provides graphic display of your data

Allen, the advantage of the software is that it shows a continuum of activity during the night rather than just a digital display of all activity lumped into a few numbers. The advantage of this is that you can correlate results with other activity to get a better perspective of what is going on at a particular time during the evening.
