Waking up from a "deep" sleep.

Post by lee_leses » Tue Aug 30, 2011 5:09 pm

Can anyone else relate to this?

Has anyone else felt like before CPAP they had not slept right in so many years you pretty much forgot what a "deep" sleep felt like?

I've been using CPAP since 2005, but it's only been recently with the new data capable machine and a lot more reading that I have really been sleeping much better.

When I woke up today, I was awake, but it was such a deep sleep that it took several minutes to even be able to really move to get up, I knew I was awake, but my body was still waking up for several minutes. I totally forgot what that felt like. On CPAP with leaks for years, I regularly remembered dreaming, but not sleep like this.

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I've been noticing this a lot more lately. I had my machine settings screwed up and it was too low about 5 months ago. I reset it to the "correct" pressure and felt much better. More recently, I bumped the pressure up a bit more and have been feeling better.

I've been getting the "deep sleep hangover" effect more than I used to, especially after a nap.

Yup. When I was initially diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (20 years ago), I was so sleep deprived that I was dreaming when I would blink my eyes! During the titration sleep study (it was done on two different nights), I could feel the pressure changing (increasing a little at a time). Then suddenly the next thing I remember is the sleep tech coming into the room. I thought it was to adjust something ... but it was to wake me. I had slept the entire night without awakening. Wow! I was so confused for several minutes. And I wondered if I could take home the machine right there and then !!
