Welcome Sara. I doubt our hosts will give you discount, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Better to call them, though, I'm not sure how closely they monitor this forum.
If money is tight, consider a used machine from SecondWindCPAP.com. They buy machines with less than 500 hours and clean them with ozone that same way the hospitals do, then resell them. Mark, the RT and owner, will likely recommend the cheapest option, but you may want a few of the bells and whistles. Without a sleep study, I felt it was important to get a machine that would allow me to see my data breath by breath, so I paid a little more to get one. The folks at SecondWind are very good people, but even with a DME that isn't out to take you for every penny they can get, you still need to do your research.
The ASAA distributes used machines to those who can't afford to pay. You might qualify. SecondWind channels machines that have more than 500 hours hours to the ASAA, so they can probably help you with that too. It might be difficult to get a full data auto machine this way, though. But again, it won't hurt to ask.

Re: dont have insurance
Another consideration is that, if you do not currently have insurance and are paying out of pocket anyway, you might not want it on your medical record in any way. If you have a doctor write you a prescription, then it becomes a preexisting condition and you might have trouble getting insurance coverage later. You can usually find used machines and equipment on craigslist, and you can buy parts and pieces on ebay to assemble a full mask yourself.
Re: dont have insurance
If your doc will write the script trying going to a local DME and see if they will rent you one at a discount.

Sara, if you will register on this forum (registration is free) and post again -- logged in with your registered nickname -- in this thread... I'd like to send you a PM (private message.) Unregistered guests can't receive or send PMs, so the only way I'd be able to send you a PM is if you'll register and post again, so I can see a registered nickname to send the PM to.

The damage and loss is devastating. At a time like this, you need more than an insurance company adjuster Insurance Claim Adjuster powerful partner who can put you on the path to recovery and walk with you all the way.

Sara, not sure where you live, but have you tried Family Health Plus? They have more liberal income limits than Medicaid and cover CPAP, drs, hopsitals, tests, etc... Let me know and perhaps I can send you the link for your state. I can appreciate the fear you are feeling right now.

Re: dont have insurance
Good morning Sara.
Welcome to the forum. If by chance you find yourself getting a nasal mask and would happen to be size petite, I'll give you my Resperonics ComfortGel Blue. I'll wash it up and send your way. I don't mind giving that mask away to someone in need. Do a search on it on cpap.com to get the information on it and see if you would feel comfortable with it.

Re: dont have insurance
I was in the same boat, what I did was call my local sleep clinic, as to speak with someone in the billing dept. Ask if they ever do any work on a charity basis. Thats what I did and I got the whole thing, study, equip (granted not the best) and follow ups, the ability to swap masks, etc soup to nuts for no cost. Be prepared to collect a whole bunch of tax records, unemployment stubs, and anything else. I too am unemployed and am on the waiting list for our state health care program so I had no option, my symptoms were very bad and in need of attention.
