Yikes

Post by BCZF » Wed Aug 24, 2011 4:49 pm

Well my machine started behaving funny the last few days. It would intermittently power OFF (no lights, no air, nothin) then it would restart after I would take a few breaths. This situation was bad enough until last night it started beeping like crazy and flashing it's lights. I checked the display and it it said "Service needed" or some such thing. Since my sleep study showed my o2 level dropping to 55%, I was worried about not using the mask for the night (this was 12:15 am). I called the emergency number for the on call DME at the clinic, she said I would be ok for the night and to see the regular DME in the morning. I ended up plugging the machine back in, and the error cleared out but the intermittent power offs still occurred.

My regular DME at the sleep clinic is a piece of work.. She didint want to download the info from my card, asked repeatedly if there were storms in the area, told me I was using my old mask (the comfortgel) incorrectly, when I told her it doesn't fit properly. She swapped my machine for an older one, while the original one gets fixed.

Anyway, I got my new Fisher and Paykel Flexifit mask today, tried it out for a bit of a nap, and seems to be a lot better. Some leaks, but with my pressures, that is expected but I think I'll do better with this one.

My only complaint with this mask is that it takes longer for the exhalations to dissipate than the other one.

Hi BCZF

I looked back to see how long you had had the M series BiPAP Auto showing in your equipment list:

Hello

Been on my Bi Pap for 2 weeks now,

If it's been less than a month since you were given your machine, and if it really is a Respironics "M" series machine, that's a pretty old model. Does your machine say "M series" on top, or does it say "System One" on top?

If you picked the wrong machine in the "Equipment" list of your profile, you might want to correct that. The Philips Respironics machines in the list start with the words "PR System One."

If it really is an M series machine it sounds like the DME was getting rid of old stock. I'd talk to the DME about replacing that outdated M series machine with a Philips Respironics System One machine.

The PRS1 machines don't actually say "System One" anywhere.

The best indication is whether it says "Philips" or "Philips Respironics."

The cpaptalk.com equipment list is confusing because it starts with "PR System One," which doesn't mean much to the newbies when they're looking through the list.

It says Bipap Plus M series..

I am actually having this done as a charity case since I am unemployed but was really in desperate need of help, so I took what they gave me. I should have read up more about these things beforehand, but I didn't.
