A lot of early and mid-morning urination w/controlled OSA

Post by LaCansada » Mon Aug 22, 2011 5:29 am

Anyone else with well-controlled OSA (AHI = .8 to 1. have a lot of early and mid-morning urination? If I wake up to "go" at 4:00 am, by 6:00 am, I am already dying. And this goes on until about 9:00 am (I am up at 5 or 6 am). Unlike with a UTI, I have heavy urine output each time. I also have type 1 diabetes but this occurs even when my BG is good. I check it at 4:00 am and then again at 6:00 am. I was wondering if this is just a byproduct of having OSA at all? Thanks.

La: I read a thread here a while back that having an apnea event causes the heart to trigger an enzyme or hormone that causes the sense to urinate. So... if you reduce your apnea events, you reduce the urge to go during the night. This is what happened to me. I used to get up one or two times a night. Now, if I sleep thru the night, I don't have to go.... but when I do awake at night, I have the urge to go. When I get up. I find that I do have to urinate more, but the pay off is that I find I have many nights that I don't have to get up. I guess I'm not really answering your question, but I think maybe what you are going thru is not all that uncommon.

Thanks Sheriff. I was wondering the same thing. If this is just a byproduct of having OSA, even if it it well-controlled.

Pre-Cpap I was waking just about every hour with full bladder. Now I rarely wake for that reason.
Pre-Cpap how often were you waking with full bladder? Was it more times than now? Wonder if what you have now is as good as it gets..perhaps. Especially since you report that it lasts till mid-morning. There are other things that cause us to seemingly need to urinate more often. My morning cup of coffee sure does. I drink one and pee 3...

LA, Tighten up the pelvic floor muscles. Kygel exercises also help to do that, and you have to work at it and concentrate on it. Doesn't totally solve the problem but it helps a lot.
