Newly diagnosed

Post by summersolstice » Tue Aug 16, 2011 3:53 pm

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for about a week since I received the results of my sleep study of a couple of weeks ago. I was diagnosed with mild to moderate OSA. The doctor wanted another sleep study with initiation and titration of CPAP but my annual benefit limited me to one study, so he recommended that I go with a home health company who is providing and fitting me with a Respironics DS550 and a nasal pillow mask from the same manufacturer.

This site look like a great source of information on a topic I knew virtually nothing about a week ago, and only slightly more now. Wish me luck!

Welcome to the forum.

When you have time please add your equipment to your profile.
If you don't know how this will explain it. wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile

The DS550 is the same machine that I use. PR System One Remstar Auto CPAP with AFlex. I have the clinician manual in pdf format. Send me a private message with your private email address and I will send a copy to you as attachment if you don't already have it.

Also in case you aren't aware of your software choices, I have put an explanation together so you can see examples here.

Welcome. I've had my machine for only 2 weeks, so I don't have many answers to your questions. Just a piece of advice -- give yourself lots of time to get used to this. And, you've found the best site for help and encouragement. Keep asking questions, keep trying to find what's right for you.

My machine arrived today without the humidifier, which they're now overnighting. The rep dropped by to explain how everything worked and how to fit the mask. Even without the humidifier I'm going to give it a go tonight. Wish me luck!

Pugsy - thanks for the offer but right now my mind's swimming with an influx of new and alien information. I may take you up on your offer later.
