Don't Shoot the Messenger

Post by Sleepless on LI » Sun Feb 12, 2006 1:30 pm

I am just putting this out there. Personally, I think it's scary, like Freddy Kruger. But someone passed it along to me, so I'm passing it along to you. You may want to check the FAQ section, too, to answer any questions that pop up while you're looking at this.

Very interesting and scary.

I am wondering how that would work for a mouth breather.

Sharon,

If you read the FAQ, it says it doesn't keep the mouth closed, nor does it stop you from being able to breathe through it. So it doesn't eliminate mouth breathing. The FAQ section answers most of the common questions, that being one of them. That's why I suggested visiting it.

And we all know you would never give up your HR mask anyway .

True, but one does need a back up mask.

Hubby cannot use the HR because he has a fat nose.

I must really be out of the loop because I've never seen anything like this mask. Guest, what other mask resembles this that you'd call it "nothing new"?

Lori,

This guy lives down the south coast from Sydney & has been working on his mask design for some years.

He had a mask before this one but it didn't really take off & he pulled it off the market.

This one is his improved model. They are not cheap & the buyer needs to go to his place near Berry (about 60 miles from here but a lovely spot) to get a fitting. I presume he will franchise out the moulding technique if the mask really takes off.

My 1st take is that I wouldn't like that much material close to my skin. He is sure people won't mind it.

The other aspect is looking like a stand-in for the lead role in phantom of the opera

Cheers

DSM,

Did you ever think of offering to be a scapegoat...I meant to say, a guinea pig for this mask? I would think this would be the least appealing to anyone who wants the least amount of mask touching their faces, like an Aura/Headrest interface. But for those who don't mind the maximum in coverage, if it works, and you're not self-conscious in any way, this may be a mask for them. Plus, for those of us in the States, I guess getting to his place for a fitting may be the biggest expense of all.

WAAAAaaay too much plastic on the face for my liking. The FOURTH barrier against leakage would be copious amounts of SWEAT! Your skin won't be able to breathe. And I'd bet a lot of folks would have skin problems in the area covered by all that plastic.

I DO like the custom molded nasal idea. I'm willing to bet you could end up with a lighter and better sealing appliance if it was custom molded. No way I'd wear that mask though.

wow

The last photo looks like the guy is getting a serious rash around his nose and cheeks.

I prefer the "AI" look of the Total Face Mask by Respironics.

I think FAQ q/a #8 is most amusing:
Does it become hot in summer?
Yes – On really exceptional hot and humid nights it can be uncomfortable, however, you probably wouldn’t want to sleep with any other mask on your face on those nights. The material this mask is made from is hypoallergenic and suitable to be worn against the skin. It is also finished with a special ventilated surface to aid in patient comfort.
Heh heh. "Yes it's uncomfortable, but everything else we know about sucks too."

Guess they're never seen nasal pillow masks.
