I started using the cpap on 1/19/06 with the nasal pillows & chin strap due to my mouth opens. I was awakening several times @ night, not for sure if it was due to slightly cracking the side of my mouth open or what. I am now on my 3rd full face mask - still awakening @ night but now I pull it off in the middle of the night and my nose is sore, red, & swollen. I am seriously considering getting the nasal pillows back. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Help Please!
Terri,
Sorry to hear about your problems.
If you're getting a sore nose with a full face mask, the two probabilities that come to my mind are either the mask is the wrong size or it's being worn too tight. The UltraMirage FF needs to be worn fairly loose. This allows the air to inflate the seal from inside. There's kind of a fine line between "just right" and "too loose". But, if things are set up properly (including size), you shouldn't be having the problems you've described.
About taking the mask off...... You didn't indicate what pressure you're set at. If your pressure is too low, you could be feeling starved for air. On the other end of the spectrum, if your pressure is quite high, you could be having a problem adjusting to it. Are you using a "ramp" feature on your machine? Sometimes the ramp feature gets set for too long of a period or not long enough or at all. Lots of people quit using their ramp feature. THEN, there's the other situation, which almost ALL of us go through.....and that is to unknowingly pull our masks off sometime during the night. It happens.....most of the time we don't realize it when we do it......and we usually get over it in a relatively short period of time. It's just another one of those learning curves we go through with this therapy.
Please keep us informed with your progress.
Best wishes,

Loosen it up!
Thank you both so much! I will try to loosen it up tonite and see how it does before I give up on it - My pressure is set @ 8 and I have been using a ramp of 15 - 20 min. Thanks again!
