Ultra Mirage Full FAce Mask

Post by Severeena » Fri Feb 10, 2006 9:51 pm

My husband is finally getting along with his full face mask. The answer to his problem was the extra cushion to keep the obscene noises from happening.

Yes there is a cushion you can purchase out of poscket for the obscene noises the Ultra Mirage makes. No one told us this.

Hope this helps.

What do you mean by "extra cushion?"

Severeena, it would help a great deal if I knew where to get one. Is it like the sensa seal for the HR or does it go between your face and the mask?

Ditto.

To me, it sounds like he didn't get a "complete" mask in the first place.

Are you saying that he was using the mask without a cushion?

And the EVIL DME stuck it to them for something that should have come standard on the mask.....

Sev, I've never heard of an "extra" cushion to put on any mask, if you mean using a second cushion on top of the one that comes with a mask.

I looked at the mask parts and accessories for the Ultra Mirage FF mask on cpap.com's site. I didn't see any reference to anything like an "extra" cushion that could be added. Of course there are different cushion sizes/shapes that can be purchased separately, but those are for changing cushions; not adding on as an extra cushion.

Do you mean that your husband switched to a different size of cushion? Or perhaps to a different shape of cushion, like switching from a Medium Standard to a Medium Shallow?

Surely he was not using an Ultra Mirage FF mask with no cushion in it at all, was he???

"Extra cushion" meaning that a full face mask has more cushion area than a nasal mask?

Tom took his Ultra Mirage with him for his sleep study. The therapist administering his test, gave him a second cushion to go over the original one on his mask.

The two seals together, make for a quiet mask and no more obscene noises. In other words you need two seals, one ontop of the other to stop all leaks and obsceneties.

New to CPAP and new to this site. But I've seen "DME" mentioned on a few threads here. What's it stand for?

Thanks.

edited to add: Never mind. I just saw the CPAPopedia link at the bottom of my own post, clicked on it, and found out! Great feature.

My goodness!! A lab-ratting sleep tech?!!! Cool!!

Severeena, would you be kind enough to ask the tech that administered Tom's titration study to write down exactly what cushion was used in his test. The model and size of both cushions, which was used on top of the other, etc.?

I'd love to know all the details of how the tech did that and how he/she got the uppermost cushion to stay in place. Most interesting!

Or, if Tom's still using the mask that way at home -- with two cushions, one on top of the other -- perhaps you can take a quick look at them and post the name of each cushion (size), telling us which one is against the mask frame as usual and which one is placed on top. Are they both cushions for the ResMed Ultra Mirage FF, or is the top cushion some other brand? How does Tom keep the top cushion in place? Does he sleep on his side much?

Luckily, I've never had leaks or noises of any kind when using the Ultra Mirage FF. But I'm always interested in anything people do to make masks work better for them.

Do please get a full description of the tech's double cushion technique, please, and share that with us. Could be of help to others!

Could it be some type of hygenic cover that happens to improve the seal?

Tom is using the mask the exact same way here at home.

He has a size large Ultra Mirage and the second cushion is over the first and I think it is the same size.

Seems the tech couldn't take the obsceneties either.

Tom puts the second cushion over the top, and places all of it on his face fastens the head gear and out he goes for the night.

I'm having difficulty picturing this....the "extra" cushion is one he places over his nose, THEN puts the mask as regularly worn over this? WOW I'm picturing that this would work to stablize it enough...no, that's not the right word...maybe make it more sturdy? How would the extra cushion be fastened?
