Generic 12v cig. adapter for Resmed S8 ?

Post by bigrak » Fri Aug 05, 2011 5:06 pm

I am looking for a less expensive equivalent to the original resmed 12v cig. adapter to use in the camper for my
Resmed S8 with humidifier. Any info. or direction, links would be grateful.

Did a little reading here and read it has less power drain if you don't use the humidifier.
Thanks for any replies.

Hi bigrak,

I haven't used any 12V adapter for my S8, but you should probably read this thread:

billboltan did a lot of research on this, and he sums it up:
A DC-12 does a number of things including managing variations in the battery terminal voltage and providing a well regulated 12V DC output of the correct plug polarity to an S8. The cost of a DC-12 compared to the cost of an S8 is small, and the protection is provides is well worth it.
Given the cost of the S8, I would stick with the Resmed one (and yes, it kills me to say that, as I almost always find a 3rd party power adapter or battery for my gizmos).

I bought a dc-12 convertor a few years ago and I have used it maybe 6 times. The last time I went to use it on a camping trip, it did not work.
I took it apart looking for an obvious fuse that had blown, but did not find one.
I just bought a new dc 12 today for 150.00 canadian dollars.
I hope it lasts better than the last one.
This is a reason why I was asking for a generic, maybe even better of a converter with the same safe guards that is sometimes cheaper.
Someone must make a duplication of the original even if was for other 12v items with a Neg. center pin ? Any one know of one? thanks jdm5
