Blood-shot eyes with Cpap?
Blood-shot eyes with Cpap?
So, I tend to keep very late hours and i do a bit of work in front of a computer as well..
Lately i've noticed i tend to get a lot more bloodshot eyes than i did before i went on CPAP though. Is this a side-effect of the cpap or of the cpap not working maybe?
Anyone have any experience with it?
I should add that, personally i suspect it might be related to the fact that my mask is somehow torn off after 4 to 5 hours of sleep each night.. that and the work in front of a computer screen daily.. but maybe not?
At any rate, just thought i'd toss it up there and see if you guys had any experience with it ^^

There's a Visine for that.

Ok, seriously. Eye drops might help for a short term fix, however it's most likely a leak that's irritating the eyes. You need to work on fixing the leak. Another possibility I've heard of is that your nasal passages could be connected to the eyes somehow, not sure about how that one works.

Hello, Fossy.
I suffered from pretty severe dry-eye syndrome prior to beginning BIPAP therapy...but after...it became a true, and very painful nightmare, for me.
I finally found the Quartz and the Onyix eye mask and these have helped me greatly. I prefer the Quartz because it is clear...but the Onyix is as good and is sold by Cpap.com.

I couldn't live without them!!! You might want to give one a try...as dry eye only gets worse with time.

Re: Blood-shot eyes with Cpap?
I haven't noticed bloodshot eyes, but since beginning CPAP about a year ago I've noticed a lot of excessive tearing - this is during the day, not at night. I thought it might be plugged tear ducts from the pressure of the mask, but my opthalmologist said random tearing is usually due to dry eye, so I've been using drops, which help. Question: Is it the constant airflow from the "exhaust" that causes it? and is the Quartz mask like a sleep mask that goes under the CPAP headgear?
Re: Blood-shot eyes with Cpap?
Quartz/Onyix are designed to go under the CPAP mask, they cross over the nose like glasses, so they shouldn't interfere in anyway. But they are pricey.moustrax wrote:I haven't noticed bloodshot eyes, but since beginning CPAP about a year ago I've noticed a lot of excessive tearing - this is during the day, not at night. Quartz mask is a very good idea.
Swim goggles are a good temporary fix-just to find out if it will help;
but not comfy enough for the long haul.

Re: Blood-shot eyes with Cpap?
I suppose it depends on the mask you use, but I bought a generic sleep mask from Walgreens and it works quite well. It fits under the seal a little but it doesn't leak any more than a Pad A Cheek liner would. It can be a slight bit uncomfortable though. I have a Bucky 40 Blinks on order, I'll let you know if that one is any better.

I just realized the OP is using Nasal Pillows, if his gear is correct. That shouldn't be leaking into his eyes.

Re: Blood-shot eyes with Cpap?
it will if not sized correctly and the pillow comes out.
Re: Blood-shot eyes with Cpap?
Right, but that's another issue. The eye masks we've been discussing may help with that, but they only 'mask' a real problem.cflame1 wrote:it will if not sized correctly and the pillow comes out.
