dwynne?

Leaks... are a little high

Are you making sure that you shut the machine off prior to taking your mask off?

I am a newb to this whole thing and I on my first mask and I have been having some leaks. The S9 beeps and wakes me up when the leak is too bad, if I miss that my wife wakes me up to tell me I am leaking and the S9 is beeping I had the straps too tight last night and the mask moved around and cut off my air. I loosened them back up this morning. It may be time to try more masks. I also have a beard and mustache which makes things even harder...

Are opposed to shaving to fix your leaks? I have never been because it always grows back.
If so, you can try either nasal pillows or the Ultra Mirage Full-Face mask (UMFF) are options for people with facial hair.

If it has been less than 30 days for this mask, call your DME to let them know you want to try another mask. You should be able to get another mask within the 30 day window.

Last night was a lot better, both for leaks and sleep. The first 3 hours were 0 events (yea!) until an obstructive woke me up. My 5.2 AHI for the night was the lowest yet!

Got my supplemental O2 on Monday (had to make several calls and go pick up the concentrator myself). O2 numbers look a TON better now.

Event Data SpO2 Pulse
Total Events 151 154
Time In Events(min) 96.7 79.6
Avg. Event Dur.(sec) 38.4 31.0
Index (1/hr) 23.9 24.4
% Artifact 0.0 0.0
Adjusted Index (1/hr) 23.9 24.4
%SpO2 Data
Basal SpO2(%) 92.3
Time(min) < 88% 3.3
Events < 88% 20
Minimum SpO2(%) 79
Avg. Low SpO2(%) 90.2
Avg. Low SpO2 < 88% 85.1
Pulse Data
Avg Pulse Rate(bpm) 78.1
Low Pulse Rate(bpm) 65

The concentrator generates a lot of heat and the short hose they supplied means it is a bedside apparatus. First couple of nights I woke up because (I think) it was too hot in the room. I wonder how long a hose I can run? Maybe put the machine in another room and run a long hose to it? The one they gave me (rental via insurance) is this one: http://www.vitalitymedical.com/devilbis ... tor-1.html . Talk about a rip, I think insurance is paying $145 or so a month to rent this. It would be nice to have some smaller, quieter, and less of a space heater...

I am getting leaks under control and mostly remembering to power down the S8 BEFORE I pull the mask off

I have developed a couple of red marks on my face from the mask, the worst is a sore under my nose. That is making it hard to get to and stay asleep. Should I get a 2nd mask (nasal pillow, full face, etc) to try or alternate with the one I have?

I would talk to them about YOU purchasing the machine of your choice and submitting the bill to them. Find out what they will pay in that case. BCBS, about two years ago, ended up paying $90 a month for 13 months for a manual Respironics CPAP. I paid most of that, due to the high deductible plan I was on. The total rent to own plan was $1100 for a machine I could have purchased for around $200 (found that out after the fact).

If you can choose your machine and have them reimburse you for part of the cost, you will be better off. I didn't know until later that my E601 prescription included CPAP or APAP. Bi-level is another code. I could have demanded an APAP to start, but the doctor, who is in cahoots with the DME, told me that APAP was overkill for my sleep study results. NOT! What he was telling indirectly me was that his job was to save money for the DME, since they had a reimbursement limit through BCBS and they made more money by prescribing the CPAP, which I received the morning after my sleep study. I went home with the machine.

In my case, the doctor worked for a sleep lab owned by the DME provider.
