I'm using a Devilbiss Intellipap DV 53 Standard Plus. Something strange has happened to the daily usage numbers since I took the unit on a trip to the east coast. I had to unplug it of course to travel. It worked fine while I was on the East coast. My last day before traveling home, I went to bed about 11 pm EDT, and got up at 3 AM to get ready to catch an early plane. When I used the unit that night at home on the west coast, it worked fine, but the daily usage the next day was something on the order of 1.5 hours. As typical for my machine, I always have to cycle through one time to get the "right answers" (I've seen others report the same issue). However, every morning since, I'm getting the same kinds of durations.
Does anyone know if there's some internal clock that needs to be updated when you power the unit off (physically removing the power cord)? Anyone else ever run into anything like this?
Thanks,
Scott

Yes there is an internal clock just like a computer. When you travel to a differet time zone it will be out by the appropriate amount of time. It should be ok when you get home.

Thanks for the response.
While I don't have confirmation from Devilbiss, I think I understand what happened. When I got home, since I hadn't had a full nights sleep, I basically went to sleep around noon time PDT and probably slept for 5 hours or so. This means I plugged the CPAP unit in and started using it in the middle of the day, after having traveled home with it. The unit must base its daily duration on this initial usage time after having been unplugged.
I did an experiment where I unplugged the unit for about an hour prior to going to bed - the next morning, it still gave erroneous results.
So, I then unplugged it for the entire day, and then plugged it in prior to using it that night - the next morning, the usage times were correct. So, I can only assume that probably the answer is to either wait to plug the CPAP unit in, or wait to use it, until "normal" bedtime after traveling.
My method going forward will be to leave it unplugged after returning from a trip (where I was sleeping different hours due to time zone differences), and start using it at "normal" bedtime after returning home.

Re: Daily Usage out of whack since a trip to east coast
My understanding is that CPAP machines usually have a "watch battery" style arrangement. It keeps time 24/7 regardless of being plugged in or not. When the battery goes dead, you get screwed because there's no way for the owner to replace the battery and no way to reset the time on the clock.
I'm not familiar with DeVilbiss in particular, though.
On some machines if you unplug the machine right after turning it off, it may not have finished writing the data to the flash memory.

There is a Devilbiss rep who posts here and can tell.
I am surprised s/he hasn't posted yet. Maybe if you put Devilbiss in the subject line s/he might know it is about a Devilbiss machine. You can Edit your original post.

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

If you do the same thing on a Philips System one, the time stuff gets screwed up in the reports for the first cycle. The software doesn't seem to get it that you can have split usage in the same day. Next day is fine, though.

You can reset the internal clock by turning the unit off, unplugging it and turning in back on right before you go to bed. Please let me know if that resolves the issue.

Thanks - I believe you've confirmed what I have found. My "mistake" was that due to hardly sleeping on my last night on the east coast, I went to bed when I got home, around 1 pm or so, so, presumably the Devilbiss assumed that this was then the start of my night's sleep.DeVilbiss Marketing wrote:You can reset the internal clock by turning the unit off, unplugging it and turning in back on right before you go to bed. Lesson learned: Don't use the unit during the day after returning home from a trip, unless you then also unplug the unit after getting up prior to the actual night's sleep.
Thanks for the response!
