Sinus infection & Cpap......
Hi,
I have a sinus infection diagnosed today. Head feels like a huge inflated ball about to bust. I tried cpap last night and woke up in pain. Dr at Urgent Care left it to me to use cpap or not. He said some people can tolerate it and some can't.
This is a first for me! Never had sinus infection before.
Just started antibiotic and steroid this evening, praying this pain goes away quick!
So for those who have had this problem before, did you use Cpap?
Thank you for any replies,
Stuffy Susan

Re: Sinus infection & Cpap......
Saline rinse of nasal passages is helpful for me, it gets rid of a lot of the extra mucus in the sinuses..less to congest, at least for awhile. I have a NeilMed Neti pot, and my DR said I could use it 4 times a day when I need to. I hope you feel better soon! You can buy the Neti Pot over the counter, and the saline rinse packets you mix in warm water, in the drugstores, CVS has it, and some grocery stores in health and beauty section. I was able to use my CPAP using Afrin nasal spray the first 2 days and then I did sinus rinses with my Neti pot so I could breathe thru my nasal pillows.

You really need a full face mask to deal with this. Anything that forces air up the nose is going to be a big problem.

Thank you both so much. I will check out the neti pot tomorrow.
Black, I actually am using the Quattro FX now, that is what I used
last night. The mask area is covered, I still try to breath thru my
nose since nasal mask usage. I am probably gonna do the recliner
tonight.

While I have not had a sinus infection, I have found the air pressure actually relieves the congestion, well keeps the passages open lets say. The trick is to get them open enuff to get some air movement thru. Even if you can just clear most of it then apply the air pressure.BlackSpinner wrote:You really need a full face mask to deal with this. I found this out when I got congested and could NOT tolerate my old FFM and switched back to my nasal pillows. Thank Goodness it really helped.

A Neti Pot does seem to help some people. I perfer the model that you sqeeze, over the neti pot (Genie lamp sytle)
The one that you sqeeze, is a little easier and faster and you don't have to tilt you head to the side. Which ever one you get it should come with the premixed packets of salt and baking soda.

Thank you both.
Hi Gumby LTNS!
I don't have nasal pillows any more. Wish I did, I would blow em open! I have the Soft Gel Nasal Mask, and the Quattro FX.
Lovin the Quattro!
I used the Quattro last night, woke up in alot of pain. That is why I am leaning towards at least tonight reclining IF I sleep steroid has kicked in. I would not wish this pain on anyone!
Bear,
Thank you for pointing out the bottle! I think for a 1st timer, I would like that better.

Re: Sinus infection & Cpap......
I did not like the bottle you have to squeeze, the pressure was too much. I like the genie lamp style that runs on gravity, and the NeilMed neti pot lid actually screws on the bottom, so when you tilt your head and are practically upside down, the liquid starys in the pot instead of running out the top as well as the nozzle where the solution is coming out into your nose. NeilMed makes a kit that has BOTH the squeeze bottle and the genie bottle, as well as the packets of buffered salt with baking soda in the correct ratio. If you decide to use the squeeze bottle, go slow to avoid pushing the infection into sinuses not yet fully involved in the infection process. If you have a perforated eardrum, though, or problems with one ear when under water, avoid the genie pot, because when you bend over with your head cocked to one side to irrigate the sinus, a compromised eardrum can hurt some people. To decongest, if you don't have hypertension or kidney problems, 12 hour pseudafed (taken about suppertime and in the AM when you get up, will clear your up to use your nasal pillows. The pseudafed may keep you awake some, but what is important to you, breathing or sleeping? I take it at suppertime so most of the jitteriness has worn off by bedtime, and then I fall asleep OK, but waken earlier than usual with the pseudafed in my system. Drink lots of water too, to help thin the mucus and flush the infection out of your body. Feel better quick!
