Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
So I'm still quite new to this (less than a week so far).. I'm trying out the pillow, and so far I like it.
I got the Phillips GoLIfe one, and while I like it, I don't like the sides of it (it's like metal wrapped in cotton) and the front "exhaust" seems to flow into my face a lot during the night, causing my eyes to dry.
I've seen/read a lot about the Swift ones (and I have a ResMed machine.) Should I ask the DME to let me try one of those?
Thoughts?

Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
Im using the Swift LT and has to say its pretty comfortable to use with minimal nose leak and the vent doesnt get in my face when blowing ...
previously I had the F&P Opus, and as my first mask it was pretty good fit... was comfortable, but sometimes maybe a little hard and made my nose sore... I tried the Swift after that... and it took a little getting use to because the pillow was "fatter" and sort of touched my upper lip compared to the Opus. But it was softer though, and I tried using the same size on the Swift as to the Opus, and found I had to go up one size to have a good seal.
I started off with having the hose wrap over my head and hang off my bed post, but since I got the hose cover, I found that it was easier to get having it tucked under my blanket infront of me.
Also I use a reading pillow, like a V shape pillow to sleep on... and I have no problems plus no sore neck too
Good luck with yours

Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
I use the one made by AEIOMed Headrest Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask with Headgear - - It has changed names over the years... NO Side straps - Has EXTRA LARGE nasal pillows - Touching only the nostrils

This is truly comfortable users can wear glasses, watch TV, read in bed and normal activities without having to change their normal bedtime routines. It delivers the prescribed air pressure without irritating the rest of the soft tissue on the face.

GREAT for Travel.....Three adjustment points make getting a comfortable fit easy. It's stable, holding the interface securely in place, and is even easier to adjust than a baseball cap.
Being a CHEEP OldFart The Price is also good

Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
I use the Resmed Swift II and I am very pleased with it. I have not used any other nasal pillow so I cannot compare it to others. I switched from a nasal mask and I don't see myself going back.
Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
I started therapy choosing the Swift LT to be my main nasal pillows mask. I tried several others during my experimenting phase. When the Swift FX came out I wanted it and I was not disappointed. I could probably use several of the different pillow types but I am quite content with the Swift FX.
I had reasons for not wanting the over the nose mask or full face mask. Those reasons have not changed.

Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
Quick question. What's the difference between the Swift LT and the Swift FX? Is it sort of a old model vs. a new model thing?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
The Swift LT and FX are just different. I use both and switch between the 2 and like them both equally. The Swift FX is very minimal, but does move on my face sometimes as I'm a stomach sleeper. The LT is a much firmer nasal pillow mask and does stay put a bit better than the FX.

Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
Sort of. The Swift LT has been around longer than the Swift FX. Swift LT headgear has the semi rigid side pieces. Swift FX has the soft silicone side pieces. Some other differences also. Both are very minimalistic on the face. I have a very small face and the LT side pieces sort of got close my eyes. Not uncomfortable but I like the least amount of stuff on my face as possible. Only minor drawback for me with the FX is the tendency for the back strap to slide up the back of my head a bit since I wear it very loose. The LT did the same thing though. I wear my hair very short.nudave wrote:Quick question. What's the difference between the Swift LT and the Swift FX? Is it sort of a old model vs. a new model thing?
For me the FX is as close to wearing nothing on my face that I could find. The Opus 360 is also very minimal but its side pieces are semi rigid and I found the headgear a bit more unstable with my tossing and turning.
It all comes down to personal preference. I also don't try to route the little hose over my head. I prefer it loose. Vent placement is not an issue for me. Different strokes for different folks. And one other thing, for me the FX breathing sounds are pretty much non existent. Even my husband noticed the difference. Not too long after changing to the FX he woke me up in the middle of the night telling me to put my mask on and turn the machine on because he didn't hear anything. It was on.

I love the sound of this mask.. but do the pillows come in small and/or extra small?Bert_Mathews wrote:I use the one made by AEIOMed Headrest Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask with Headgear - - It has changed names over the years... NO Side straps - Has EXTRA LARGE nasal pillows - Touching only the nostrils

Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
I have the Swift FX since I started back on CPAP in Feb this year, and I only missed 2 nights of therapy when i was admitted to the hospital from the ER when I broke a vertebra and did not take the time to pack up the CPAP to go with me to ER. The stupid admitting Dr said I could go a few nights without it!! (My sleep Dr was VERY unhappy when he learned that- he said to ALWAYS take my CPAP to the ER with me,since never know when they might admit you! Anyway, the Swift FX is very comfortable but I wish the hose would go over my head. I was diagnosed with OSA about 10 yrs ago, but the masks back then were really uncomfortable and I failed CPAP then, opting to have surgery that only helped for about 6 months.I think you will probably like the Swift Fx. I am trying to get a short hose for the Opus (that somebody gave me) that I melted today.A word to the wise:Do NOT try to clean your hoses by immersing them and boiling them for 20 minutes like I tried today.

Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
Swift FX does suit a lot of people very well.
The nasal pillows mask I love is the one Bert mentioned. The Headrest by Aeiomed. Have been using it since 2005.
I removed the headgear from mine -- added my own homemade soft, stretchy straps (legs cut off a pair of pantyhose tights...not regular pantyhose):

Xena, there used to be "small" nasal pillows available, but they had to be purchased separately. The Headrest comes with two sizes of pillows, but the two sizes are "Med" and "Large." I say "used to be" for the small pillows because I don't know if there are small pillows still in stock anywhere. I looked at the sizes for just the "nasal seal" (the nasal pillows) on cpap.com and didn't see "small" listed there.
The cheapest price I've seen for the Headrest mask (with Med and Large pillows and free shipping) and for a lot of other masks is here:
http://www.cpapshopper.com/mm5/merchant ... _Code=HRML
I think cpap.com price matches if you find an item cheaper at another online store.

Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
Apparently I didn't like the fx so far. First night and I took it off sometime in the night.

Re: Which Nasal Pillow do you use?
Tape it on at night, until you you get used to it. Many of us took our masks off at night, and this is how I "trained" myself to leave it alone. Once it is taped, trying to take it off in your sleep will cause you to wake up enough that you won't take it off. Double back the edges of the tape so you can get it off quick if necessary by tugging on the crimped edges.scottjf8 wrote:Apparently I didn't like the fx so far. I only needed the tape a few nights before I had trained myself to leave it on through the night.
