S9 Auto Escape - not a total brick....
S9 Auto Escape - not a total brick....
First of all, I have to thank everyone who posted here for the last six weeks or so since I have been lurking. You have made a great difference in my experience so far. I was stuck with the dreaded "S9 Auto Escape brick" like so many others. I researced it on this board and that same day I was able to call the DME and explain that the Doc wanted more data than it would provide, after some runaround I was able to get the Autoset in trade a week later. I guess it comes down to having a good DME. I just wanted to let anyone stuck with the "brick" to go ahead and get RESCAN and download the data from it's standard SD card. It WILL give you AHI data as well as the pressure info that will still be of some help...

it won't however give you leak data.
Re: S9 Auto Escape - not a total brick....
I see the lack of leak data as crucial. If you don't know if you're leaking or not, how can you ever trust the accuracy of the data???
There is absolutely NO logic for making machines that don't report leak data--oh wait, except to put profit over people.

No arguments here, not defending it, just pointing out that there is a minimum of data to be had. No leak data, no detail data, no detail graphing, no sleep quality data on the screen, no wave forms, no leak check smiley face and on and on... it is however worth the price of the software (free), if you are stuck with one for a few years due to insurance, financials etc, to at least see what pressure it is running at and your AHI.

Re: S9 Auto Escape - not a total brick....
Glad you got it worked out.
You know, if
1) You're going to stick with CPAP for several years.
2) You got stuck with a dataless machine and can't get a new one soon.
3) You've got the savvy to track your own treatment.
4) You can manage to find the money.
I think it's worth it to buy a fully data capable machine online out of pocket.
Your health is at stake. Poor health from bad CPAP can cost you money.
Spread over the years, it doesn't cost that much per month. You're probably already spending a good bit of money on supplies, doctor visits, etc. You're also investing time in maintaining the equipment, doctor visits, etc.
Until you've looked at the data from a machine with good data and waveforms, you really don't understand how much this can tell you about your treatment. Even going from a REMstar Auto M machine to a PRS1 auto machine and just getting the waveforms is an enormous improvement.
It's good to have a spare machine in case your main machine breaks. Or even one in the living room next to the recliner where you may want to take a nap sometimes.
You can get the machine you want, not what someone else chose to meet their own needs.
You might find a good machine at a good price if you watch Craiglist for a while. I watched for 3 months and got a good price on the machine I wanted.
