How often Do you replace the filter in your S8?

Post by McSleepy » Thu Jun 16, 2011 8:11 am

I have a ResMed S8 Auto VPAP with the polyester fiber filter. The manual says it should be replaced every 6 months and that it is not washable. It also mentions an antibacterial filter but no details about it, other than it must have low flow impedance (<2 cm H2O @ 60L/min). I couldn't find the latter online but there is a hypoallergenic one (e.g., https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... -pack.html), however, my machine is not listed and there are no speceifications. What do you guys/gals use and how often do you replace it? My DME charges $19.16 for a single (standard, I'm assuming) filter, my insurance forces them down to $9.12. Even though I pay 10%, which comes down to $0.91 per filter, I think it's outrageous and I'm considering just buying a 6-pack of hypoallergenic filters, if they would fit my machine.

My DME charges $6 which is still a rip off.

I have a different S8, but I went down to the hardware store and picked up a washable foam filter used for lawn mowers. I cut it to fit and stuffed it in the filter hole. I clean it once a week weather it needs it or not.

I may try that - I get charged $12 for 2 (TWO) tiny filters that comes to $6 per square inch?

When I got my first machine (2 years ago) I never thought about changing the filter. After about six months, there was a message on the led screen to change the filter, which I did. When I saw HOW MUCH gunk was on there, and realizied I was BREATHING that crap, I started changing my filter every two - three weeks!

First time I bought filters, I searched online and found a place selling them cheap, and bought 2 dozen for only a couple of dollars. Since then, I've changed insurance and now get them through my DME, 2 per month. No charge to me, but they charge the insurance $10 for them.

I replace mine every time the message comes up to replace the filter.

Thank you, all, for the responses. By the way, the message on the machine will show up at a frequency that is pre-programmed by your DME (mine didn't bother and I wouldn't care of his opinion, anyway) and can be set to anything - that's why I wanted to know what is your actual time period. Of course, it will depend on how dusty your area is, etc. But I mostly wanted to know with which filter you replace it and where (exactly) do you buy them. Does anyone know if that anti-bacterial filter I linked to above will fit the Auto 25?

Go to cpapfiltersandsupplies dot com/details.php?id=349&path=1_29 -They sell a 50 pack of these filters for $1.59 each. About 33% cheaper than cpap dot com.

My DME says take it out and shake it once a week and replace them once a month.
