Sunburn & Facehugger - NOT recommended

Post by McSnoresalot » Wed Jul 13, 2011 11:20 am

Damn, the older I get, the better I was........

Spent the week of the 4th camping with the family in Eastern Wa. (camping means no room service of course - did have Sat. TV and air conditioning, we are not animals)

Anyway, been a few years (like more than 10) since I did any agressive waterskiing - last 10 years I've had a fishing boat that was good for towing tubes around but lame for ski's & such, this year got a jet boat - plan was to spend a week teaching the kids old-school slalom skiing and learn a little bit about wakeboarding.

Got out around dawn the first day, water was cold but flat, strapped on the old Kidder Ski and got after it.......for about 5 minutes before I missed a cut and faceplanted. Back in the day, that would be nothing and I'd be right back up....these days, not so much - decided to chill for a couple hours and drive the boat for the kids before I got back in to try something a little more "mellow" like a kneeboard. Naturally the kneeboard turned out to be another in a long line of poor decisions I ended up making that week - got semi-comfortable on it and decided I could do some wake jumping....long story short, nosed in on one attempt and felt like I slammed into a brick wall (sure don't remember wipeouts hurting like that when I was in my '20's.)

Next day I was so sore felt like I'd been in a car wreck - spent the day lounging by the pool (as noted, "camping" is a relative term - really not into "roughing" it these days) - got sunburnt to beat hell even with SPF 9000, didn't think much of it until I tried strapping Facehugger on that night.........Yeeeouuchhh, not sure what was worse, cinching it on or peeling it off the next morning - note: Aloe vera goop and the mask do not play well together.

Glad I didn't fall asleep in the hammock with the mask on - would made for interesting tan lines.

I second that ouch; and raise you a few mosquito bites right in the contact zone.

Facehugger? Yea, I'd love to find someone in the special effects industry, so they can make a prosthetic overlay for my mask that looks like the Aliens facehugger, from the movies. That would be so cool, to have something like that to wear when you travel and/or have to go to the hospital.

That must have been like when I went snorkeling at clothing optional Negril beach in Jamaica back in '78 - my ass was out of the water all day - sunscreen washed off........ sitting was very uncomfortable for a few days, I could feel every grain of sand on the chair!
