I use the Hybrid and I love it.

I highly recommend the Hybrid over the Liberty. The Hybrid comes with three sizes of mouth cushion and three sizes of nasal pillows (which can also be cut apart, so you can use two different sizes of them if need be). The Hybrid is far more versatile, fit-wise, than the Liberty, and the chinflap is one of my favorite features, as it keeps my mouth closed. I can mouth-breathe if I have to, but that's a rarity.

After trying many different masks (including the Liberty), the Hybrid is my mask of choice. (In the interest of full disclosure, I do employ a "fix" with my mask to ensure that the pillows stay put all night. Small price to pay for the security of having a good mask that fits well and is comfortable. )

Check out the Lab Rat Trophy Awards thread that rested gal maintains. It lists all kinds of "fixes" and solutions that forum members have come up with to troubleshoot the problems they have with therapy. Very helpful. viewtopic.php?t=15104

Very cool! I'm going to give it a try. I'm using a full face CPAP and i'm always having trouble with it being too loose because when it gets too tight it bothers my neck, nose, etc. I'm hoping this will be a fix for those problems.

Thanks,
Matt

so you can read more about it on that link.

Based on the many positive comments I've read here on the forum about the Respcare (innomed) hybrid I really want to try it out. I do well with my quattro FX but the hybrid does have a certain appeal. I have applied to borrow the hybrid from the loaner program at sleepnationTV and I am happy to report that it arrived today and I plan to try it out in the next day or so...so maybe I'll have some feedback. In the meantime you should be able to get the hybrid mask from your DME and I believe that you have 30 days to try it out to see if you like it. (tell your DME that you know that in case they do not volunteer the info). It may be covered by your insurance. I just got the quattroFX a few weeks ago so I am not eligible for insurance payment for a mask for several months.

Just make sure if you get it from your DME and they fit it on you, that you get all the sizes nasal pillows and mouth pieces. Don't let them keep them, they are part of the full mask and you can do a trade with others on the site here.

Of those who wear a hybrid-style mask here, the majority wear the Hybrid Universal. If the Hybrid fits, it's likely the Liberty won't and vice versa. Most of us use a third strap of some sort to anchor the pillows...as suggested see RestedGal's Lab Rat awards. I love my Hybrid!

I'm so glad someone posted a question about a hybrid mask. I just purchased the Hudson Latex-Free Hybrid Universal Interface Complete Kit, and just started to use it. My mouth tends to fall open during sleep and this has a special place for my chin so this doesn't happen. Two nasal pillows for my nose and my mouth is covered by the mask. The mask is comfortable and now I don't have to worry about my mouth falling upen. However, I am having one problem: my right nasal pillow leaks. My pressure setting is between 14 and 15; luckily, my Resmed machine allows me to start at a lower pressure and ramp up. For the last two nights, I've tried to sleep on my right side, with my finger keeping the right nasal pillow in place so that it doesn't leak and whistle. As you can imagine, this is less than satisfactory. I was wondering if anyone else out there has any suggestions for nasal pillow leak prevention? I've read some of the info on the forum and I will try that; ie, not making the mask too tight, trying a different size pillow, perhaps using a cream or ointment to get a better seal. I was even thinking of trying medical tape. I realize that I may have to play with this mask for a while to get the optimum fit and that I will have to be patient. An old-time CPAP user told me to give the whole thing at least a month. So I'm willing to hang in there but wondered if anyone else had any thoughts or suggestions. Other than this one leak, I am very happy with this particular mask.

I've used both the Hybrid and the Liberty - I, personally, prefer the Liberty - the nasal pillows fit me better than the Hybrid did. BUT you do have to know what size full face mask you need because the Liberty only comes with one size of the oral interface but comes with all 3 sizes of the nasal pillows.

Everyone is different. I would have preferred the Hybrid - if I could get the nasal pillows from the Liberty and the oral interface from the Hybrid, I'd be in 7th heaven. Wish someone with SA would design a full face mask that would work for people like me who are "tweeners". I'm a little too big for the small but way too small for the medium. Oh well - the Liberty is working halfway decent with only 1 piece of tape helping me out right now except for some mask farts that wake me up What stinks is my DME only offers one type of full face, one type of nasal, and one of the "hybrid" types. All the same manufacturer and no way to try anything different. And I hate buying masks just to find out that whatever I buy doesn't work.

Ah well - can't have perfection on everything

You may need a different size pillow for your right nostril - that's actually quite common. If you check your paperwork for your mask it'll tell you you can cut your pillows in half and use a different size for each nostril. I'm having problems with my liberty for that same thing right now but I think mine is more positioning than size. However, when I had my Hybrid, I had to use a small pillow on the one side and a medium pillow on the other side.

Hmmmm, I'd like to get some more medium pillows for my Liberty - is there a thread where people can post what pillows they have for what mask? I'd gladly share my pillows because I can get a new mask every 3 months and will have pillows to "share". I may have a large set for the hybrid that I didn't cut but I may have cut it so I won't send that without looking first

Brilliant! I will try a different size for my right nostril. Last night I used medical tape and it gave a very good seal. I got a good 5 hours sleep out of that but, when I woke up around 3:30AM, it had come loose and I was too sleepy to fix it. But it can work! Can't wait to try a different size pillow in my right nostril. GREAT IDEA!!!
